Fell asleep early last night so did not get a +4 test like I was hoping. Darn (for not getting an extra test in, not for falling asleep early)!

Got Ozzy and Figgie these chair hammocks yesterday on amazon. You tie them up under the bottom of a chair for a cozy place for them to snuggle. I think they are going to love them and I can't wait for them to get here tomorrow! And they will be set up right by their new feliway diffuser. LOL. So a comfy and happy spot. Man, these kitties are getting spoiled.

Ozzy woke me around 4 am for nummies. Had to take him to kitchen again and show him his feeder already had food waiting for him. He is still scared of it when he sees it rotate. Silly kitty!

Uh oh...someone threw up last night. It's always a mystery whodunnit when you have more than one cat. Like, can't their puke be color coded or something? Orange vomit for Ozzy and Yellow for Figgie...??? No, they just keep us guessing like we're detectives! For me, I'm always trying to see does it have orange fur in it or black fur...that might give me a clue!!

I am wondering if it was Ozzy because it was very much a foodie full pile of puke (sorry for the TMI) and he's the one who came and woke me up for food.

Either way, his number was 256 PS and he ate good so I'm going to not worry about this one. It's not like he is on VESTULIN anymore where you would be so scared about your cat vomiting that you'd run to re-feed him just in case. Man, now that I'm on lantus, it's hard to try to do the shots at exactly the same time, but holy moly, what a difference.

He went up at +1. Assuming a food spike. We shouldn't be worried about anything shoukd we? I have to leave. Hubby may be able to check back in on him.

Doubt it's a worry-- how far up? In addition to food spikes, don't forget the meter variance-- especially starting at 256, you could go to the high 200's just on that!

Yeah for Hubby :)......have an awesome, peacefilled day, Jo ! And Ozzy, eat from your feeder, little man and then surf away ...shouldn't be too challenging for Cali Kitty:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Jo

Sorry I missed your tag yesterday but we were out all day and a good part of the evening,.

One thing I want to clarify is that we do not have a "no shot number" in this ISG (eta: except we do advise you don't shoot under 50). What we have is a "post and ask for help" number. So if you get a 150 or below at shot time, don't feed Ozzy. Post and ask for help. We have different options which might include stalling, shooting a one-time reduced dose, skipping, etc depending on whether you can monitor and whether someone can stay with you.

For example, let's say you got a 100 at PMPS. We're going to see if you have any data when you've handled lower numbers (you do), if you are able to test, if you have supplies, etc. If all that is "yes", then the person helping you also needs to be able to stay with you for as long as Ozzy might have lower numbers that cycle or have others who can step in and take over. Sometimes an east coast person might start out with you and then hand you over to a west coast person to stay. But we don't leave you alone. That also means if there isn't someone that could stay with you for the lower numbers, we will let you know upfront so you might want to stall, shoot a reduced dose, or skip.

Just wanted to clarify that. There was another question you had an I'll try to get back to you on that later today as we are headed out again now for the zoo! Have a great day.

Thanks Marje...

Talk about being in good hands! Wow! This is amazing.

Thanks for your response and for clarifying.

Have fun at the zoo! It's raining here today but hope it's not too much down in SD.

Hubby was home and grabbed a +3
so far today:

AMPS 256,
+1 267
+3 217

He may make it into blue at his nadir today but we'll never know since we are not home....:(

Food in feeder for +2, +4, and +8. Think we should move the +8 to +6?

This is Ozzy's 6th cycle so I am really wondering what will happen next. Where's the cliff notes on this stuff!?? Haha!

His numbers are still a bit high. I am not a fan of increasing a dose in the middle of the work week since I won't be able to be home to monitor, but I might consider it on Thursday AM or PM since I'll be home Fri, Sat, and Sun and able to monitor.

That will also give me a few more cycles to confirm he's cleared a bounce and needing a dose adjustment.

What do you think???

I agree. I'd wait. He could clear the bounce tonight.

And, I should correct myself. We do advise to not shoot any number less than 50. ;) I should add that because we actually have had some new members shoot below 50

What hammocks did you buy at Amazon? I was thinking of getting some for Tobey and Livvie.

Warning: TMI....

Haven't gotten a ketone test on Ozzy since his Big Fat Negative 3 days ago so thought it important that I should try again tonight. I cleaned out his litter box all nice (sometimes they run to go dirty it up right when it's been cleaned) and low and behold- he was interested in getting in. So I stood by with my trusty ketone strip in hand waiting to hear the sound, but nothing....so I pull his tail up and try to stick the strip under there...and darnit...he's already done!! I stood by the whole time and he tricked me by peeing 'quietly'! What the heck! So, I try to get creative and stick the strip in his litter covered pee clump. It looked negative but..well...I know that's not an accurate way to test so I won't write this one down! What a trickster!

Then...wait...he hops back in the box...NOOO, is he going to go AGAIN..and I'm going to get another chance? He starts doing this little dance in his box and is very excited...I'm like, what am I witnessing here???? And then he hunches up...on no..he's not going to pee, he's preparing for a POO! Ok, I have to be honest and admit that I have never seen my kitty take a poo in all the 8 years of his life, so I'm kinda intrigued on who leaves what size ones in the box (him or Figgie). So he drops trou and it looks pretty soft (like soft serve ice cream) and it smells like..well ****...Then it got me wondering, what is normal kitty poo??? Does this sound normal?

Wow...we get real personal here, don't we???

+2.15: 176. Cycle 7 since bounce. That's a 136 point drop in a little over 2 hours. Ok @Chris & China we are 'watching out!' Can't really stay up too late tonight so will test again here at +4 and see what is going on. He just had a snack. Should we test sooner than +4?

Also tagging @Marje and Gracie because I think she is on.

No, that is not normal kitty poo. You might want to get him some Renew Life Saccharomyces boulardii and give him 1/4 capsule twice a day. You can also get Florastor at Walmart.

Looks like he's clearing the bounce tonight. I know it's not good to do so when you have to work tomorrow but with that drop, you'll need to keep an eye on him.

Thanks for the info on the hammock. Let me know how you like them!

That is a big drop so I would give him some LC food and test at +3 to see how fast he drops in an hour. You'll be able to tell if he's slowed down a bit....or sped up. You might be sleep testing tonight.

Thanks Marje. I did a quick google search to see what these are and see that they are probiotics. What could be causing the soft stools and why the recommendations on the probiotics? Do you think it could have anything to do with the diet changes?
Also, how do I give those?

I had a 'feeling' you were going to say that! Ok, will test him again here at +3 which is about 10 mins away and see how things are.
I am at work tomorrow but Hubby might be able to check in on him and make sure he is ok.

It could or if you don't know what his stool is like, it could have been that way for a while.

Here's a great discussion on probiotics. It's geared towards IBD but I learned that probiotics are really important to maintain good intestinal health.

We take them daily and I give them to Tobey and Livvie daily and they eat a raw diet.

I will check out the link you sent me. Do you know what causes soft stools? I have actually noticed some foul smells coming from the room with the kitty box for a couple days, so not sure if this is new or not. I have read a LOT of threads on this board and I know some folks say stinky poo could be related to pancreatitis. Ozzy's tests related to his pancreas were normal at the hospital several weeks ago (even vet was surprised), but I admit, I can be a bit of a hypochondriac myself, so just wondering..

A lot of things: food (new food or food sensitivity), worms, IBD/lymphoma, parasites, giardia or coccidia, stress, etc. I don't necessarily think stinky poo is associated with pancreatitis but soft stools might be. There would be other symptoms, though.

Cats eating canned or dry food will definitely have more odor to their poos. Raw food cats have no odor to their stools.

He is still scared of it when he sees it rotate.

It might be a good "project" over the weekend to see if you can get him to realize that the feeder is his friend and not a big bad monster that's going to eat him.....that's the vacuum cleaner!!

Find a really yummy treat he likes and just sit with him.....put one in the feeder and have it rotate....put another in ...and another.....eventually he should get the point that all good things come from the auto-mat

This is hilarious! He IS terrified of the vacuum!!!

This is a great idea! Will definitely do that this weekend! Thanks for the suggestion!:bighug:

YES!! I heart you Chris!! See, I listen too!!
;):pI think it was me that said he could clear the bounce tonight.

It's only +3 and we know he's filling his depot. I wouldn't assume +4 is his nadir. Yes. I think you should test again. If he is a good eater, you could give him a little more LC to see if he will slow down.

YES! You absolutely did! I heart you too Marje! You have been Ozzy's guardian angel since we started lantus and we LOVE YOU!! Thank your for all your support, guidance, and the time you take to help us. I am forever grateful! :bighug::kiss: I listen to you, too!!

Feed him again now? He ate about an hour ago? Or wait to test again and see if he drops???

When they start coming down that fast, if you feed a little LC, you might be able to flatten the curve a little so he doesn't go so low on you later. If you can slow it down a bit with LC, you "might" be able to get to bed sooner. We don't know yet with Ozzy but he's coming down at a pretty good clip.

And I'd retest a hour after he eats.

Jo

I have to get to bed. We are driving home tomorrow and have to be up early. I've asked Tricia to check in on you in case Chris has to go to bed.

I hope you have a quiet night. I'll check in tomorrow.

Thanks for checking in on us and for the great advice. Ozzy just finished his 9pm meal (he didn't finish it earlier). Will test again in about 15 mins at his +4. We have all the tools and advice needed in case he goes low. Will post his +4 and ask for advice as needed.

Thank you again.

Hope you enjoyed your trip to San Diego. Have a nice road trip home! :bighug::kiss:

+4=93.

Shoot and Ya at the same time. Another green.

He's +4 now. Should we be worried? The last time he dropped into the greens he was 72 at +4 and 53 at +5.25 but we had to steer him up with food. He literally just finished eating a snack about 10 mins ago so I doubt it affected this test with a food spike. What do you think @Chris & China and @Tricia Cinco(GA) & Harvey

Thanks!

I've always said I want to come back as a cat too.....but only if I can figure out how to come back as my OWN cat....LOL
Hahaha... I didn't want to say that, but yes, I meant my own cat too. That's because we are such good kitty mamas!!! :) My hubby has made jokes over the years about wanting to come back as my cat, too. But I think that's more when kitty is snuggling on my chest! :woot: Men!!!

So Ozzy is clearing a bounce from his green cycle on 1/7 and is back into the blues and greens tonight. What should we expect for his cycle tomorrow? Same as tonight? Could he bounce again? Stay low, possibly need food steering tomorrow afternoon? I have to work tomorrow but Hubby might be able to check in on him. Oh boy this is fun!:arghh::confused:o_O

What if we wake up to a blue PS?

Ok...I'm probably getting ahead of myself! He has never had a blue preshot before.

I'd test him again at +4.5.....for the last few hours he's been coming down at about 40 points per hour.....if he continues, you might want to up the carb percentage on his next meal

Ahhh......Tricia to the rescue!!!

I have to be up in 4 1/2 hours to T/F/S and then be out another couple of hours later, so I'm going to leave you in her (more than capable) hands!!

I hope Ozzy slows his roll soon so you both can get some sleep soon!!!
