I slept right through my alarm and was an hour late with his shot. This is horrible. I will be giving it at the usual time tonight (at +11) if it remains persistently high, and increasing tomorrow morning. Even if this is a bounce, a lowest nadir of 199 just doesn't cut it.

This is the first time I've seen the meter say "HI" instead of giving a number. I feel like I'm killing my little cat because I can't bring him up to an effective dose that will knock him out of the danger zone quickly enough.

Try to remember Chino didn't become diabetic overnight. He will come down and you're doing a great job. TR is an aggressive approach so just hang in there. You're certainly not killing your cat...just the opposite. Down now please Chino.

Hi Adrian,

Don't worry to much about the Hi reading even though it is scary. It could simply mean Chino is at 501. Many of us have slept thru an alarm or two over the years. I was looking at Chino's SS and it sure looks like you are working on getting the right numbers. You are doing great! TR is my favorite way of doing this sugar dance with my kitties to and I have seen a lot over the few years I have been here. I think it would be best though if you roll back a 1/2 hour tonight and then back to normal in the morning instead of all at once. I am sure some other folks will chime in here as well. Just know we call it the sugar dance because we just don't know where our kitties will take us. Chino is doing great and so are you.

I'm wondering if the FF classic chicken might be causing some of the high numbers. They changed their formula. Are you interested in feeding raw food?
My kitty Fritz is really sensitive to carbs and always made his numbers higher.
Is it possible that Chino has other health issues like teeth or could his borderline hyperthyroid be contributing?
I saw on his SS he had an infection on Dec 26th could it be back? That can cause high numbers. With giving antibiotics are you giving any kind of probiotics?
As Karen mentioned FD didn't happen over night.
Some kitties just need more insulin so following the TR should get you the lower numbers in time.
Remember ECID.

Thank you. That's what I'll do, then, shoot at +11.5. "HI" on the Relion Confirm is 600+ which is the highest we've gotten on a human meter! But 2 hours later, he's down to 498, thank Gd.

He gets FF classic chicken in the mornings (4% carbs by most references) and at night he gets either the same, turkey/giblets, beef/chicken, or liver/chicken... but all should be under 5%.

They get probiotics every morning.

He did have several teeth extracted because of an abscess over 4 months ago, but there was no sign of swelling/infection on subsequent vet visits after the initial follow-up (which showed the swelling going down).

All meters including AT have a 20%-30% variance allowance by industry standards.

That's just downright scary. Once upon a time, I was a nurse. (I still have an active RN license, but I've been out of direct patient care for the past 4 years, working in healthcare IT and informatics.) I don't think I would've been nearly as confident in my ability to assess and treat accordingly if I'd known how inaccurate the insulin syringes and meter readings can be. But that's part of why I beat myself up over these persistently high readings. I feel like I should be able to manage this better because of my background, and like I must be doing something wrong for his sugar to still be in the black :(

We all feel that way trust me. It's very early for Chino and he will get there, they all do eventually just some quicker/easier than others. :bighug::bighug:

I hate it when the meter greets you in the morning. Been there, done that, don't want the T-shirt. Neko saw blacks and reds for months. At one point I realized the black bounces were a results of me finally being successful in getting her blood sugar down. That sweet little 199 you saw the other day has a penalty. As Chino sees more of those blues, his body will freak out less.

Marching up in dose, like you plan to do tomorrow is a good idea. Typically we say to hold 8 cycles when you first see blue, but you are right - this dose is too low. If he's high reds or worse tonight, I think you'd be fine making up the one hour at PMPS if it works better for you.

First couple of times I got a "Hi" on my Relion Confirm, I did a test on the backup Bayer Contour. Not Hi, but close enough. At some point you really don't care how accurate it is at the upper end - the blood sugar is just too high. Meters measure a lot closer at the lower end, where it counts.
