Done with the first day of classes... and no clue what to make of these numbers. Mandarin started out last night with a short dive into the 40s and I had the hardest time even waking up this morning. So I am not sure if that +8 is a reaction to him going a bit low last night, or to not getting a +6 snack... or whether he dipped low while I was at work today. :nailbiting: The cats didn't even finish their +3 snacks - which is highly unusual for them. Maybe they are a bit stressed about me being back at work too.

Looking at Walter's numbers today, I should probably fatten up his dose. :nailbiting:

....tomorrow, Lenny has an appointment for a recheck and to get the one remaining suture removed (he was already very helpful and removed the others himself ). He is on 20mg of Pred and I didn't realize until today how much he is drinking and peeing with that. The poor boy basically knocked me over on his way out the door when I came home from work.

Oh dear, I hope he won't be on the Pred long. I don't know anything about diabetes in dogs, but if he were a cat that would concern me. I'm sure you had the same thoughts. Paws crossed he'll be off the steroid soon and the excessive thirst will go away.

Mandarin, you're looking good today. Why the dash to the beach? Did you see some sharks in the water?

Walter, what are you doing up in the rafters? Why don't you slide on down and join your brother on the beach?

Hope the girls are doing well, Christina, and that you get some sleep tonight!

The kitties could be feeling the stress from the change in routine. I hope Lenny's appointment goes well tomorrow and he won't need to be on the pred much longer. Sending prayers.

I know! I have never heard of a dog becoming diabetic because of steroids, but I can't help but worry. That's exactly what happened to Mandarin...

I still don't get what is going on with Lenny. The surgery was on his front paw and shouldn't be at all connected to his difficulties walking. It is like his back end is not communicating with the rest of his body. Here's what he's doing:

I am happy you made it through your first day back. It's so difficult trying to get back into the swing of things.

That is strange seeing Lenny on that video. I have no clue whats going on. Hopefully the vet will have some answers for you.:bighug:

Has the vet seen the video? Hopefully you'll get some answers and a plan for treatment. Sending vines.
Yes, and he looked about the same when she saw him last week. She is concerned that might have myositis, an autoimmune disease that leads to inflammation in the muscle (hence the steroids). He has a number of other health issues (e.g. his thyroid stopped working when he was only three years old), so it is possible that the stress of the anesthesia triggered this. Either way, it sucks. He is used to being active and playful and I am having the hardest time trying keeping him calm.

Mandarin hasn't been bouncing after a low so not sure why he would start now. Well, except for the obvious that he's a :cat: and everything is subject to change  So maybe a reaction to not having a +6 snack especially if he didn't eat all of his +3?
Sending some good vetty vines to Lenny; how thoughtful of him to help the vet out by removing the sutures:rolleyes:

Hopefully Mandarin just got lost and will be back to the lagoon or he's planning a high before a low. Good luck with the f on Walter's dose.

Dogs do get diabetes and sure hope Lenny can get off the pred soon. That video is a bit sad but doesn't look like it's bothering him. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

You definitely called it on the high before the low. What a strange cycle today... but I am glad that he is back in the lagoon.

...and Lenny definitely doesn't seem to be in pain. I think he's mostly frustrated with his inability to walk normally, but he still wants to run and play.

I hope Mandarin gets back on track right away. Did you re-test when you got that +8? But perhaps it is just one of those unsettling things.
Vines for Lenny.
Walter: there's a dosecrease threat on the table!

Did you re-test when you got that +8?
No, I didn't. In hindsight, I probably should have. ...and it looks like he's up to no good tonight. I had every intention of going to bed at +2 and then Mandarin goes swimming with the sharks.

I keep telling him that it's so much better (and much less stressful for the bean) to earn reductions when you stay in normal numbers for a week. But I guess he's being a cat. :cat::rolleyes:

They definitely have to do it their way it seems! Sorry hear about Lenny's issues. I hope the vet has some insight and you get some answers tomorrow.
