At what point do I increase 1u instead of 0.5u for an unregulated acrocat under TR?

Hello all. All signs are pointing that Bronx (acrogemaly) will be a double-digit dosage cat on Lev. We are up to 8u and he has yet to see a yellow. I am concerned his body will not be able to take staying in the reds & pinks for much longer. I have been increasing 0.5u every 4-5 cycles. Wondering what the acrocat experts here think about increasing 1u every 4-6 cycles since the % increase from 8u-9u is about half of what a 4u-5u increase would be. I started experimenting with R and that has had no impact at all so far, but will continue to do so hoping to get to that golden #. Bronx is telling me it's time to lose the patient pants, he is tired of feeling like crap! Thanks, Paul

Usually 1 unit increases come after 10u. If others think it's OK for you to start on the next increase I would not do them sooner than a full 6 cycles. You are accurate in thinking about increases in percentages but again usually it's done after the 10u mark. Tonight is the 6th cycle since the last increase and it does that 4-6 cycles to see what effect the increase will have even with Acro cats and especially when the increases are larger.

I started increasing Doodles in 1u increments at 7u back in April and was dosing R more than once a day. Because of the marked response he had with Levemir, looking back it could be argued that he was overdosed with Lantus causing those high flat red/pink and black numbers. Too much insulin can look like not enough and the depot needs time to fill and work properly. I doubt this is the case with Bronx but my suggestion is be careful, be methodical when bringing his dose up. Just because he's Acro doesn't mean he won't hit a break through dose sooner rather than later.

Remember Bronx didn't become diabetic or Acro overnight and they are tough little cookies.

You may want to put the ? mark in the prefix. People scan for those :)

OT: BTW, I'm from Clifton. We moved to AZ when my husband retired from the Passaic County Sherriff's Dept.

I would do 4 cycles at 8.5, then 4 at 9 (provided no yellow) and then post your question again. Increasing every 4 cycles is already being aggressive.

Let's see where he is after the 4 cycles at 8.5u and consider a larger increment at that point. Wendy and I did talk about the possibility of this already, but hadn't seen a current thread from you. Can you make sure and post early-ish on Sunday so we have time to talk before your Sunday pm shot?

My Sunday will be the 4th at 8.5. I won't increase to 9 until Sun eve.

I will do 4 cycles at 8.5, started last night. Also gave 1u of R this am.
