198 should be fine to shoot the 1u, especially if you can be around to monitor. 150 is the beginner cutoff for not shooting, as Karen mentioned the other day, people eventually shoot as low as 90 once they know their cat responds to the insulin.

I would stick with the 1 unit if you are going to be around, take advantage of it. Better to do it today when you can test and see and learn how he does all day, and gather that data, then to wonder what he did all day on a day when you have to be gone. Just be aware that it looks like he's coming down from a bounce, so you may need to test more than less. Do you have plenty of test strips, and supplies?

Yes I have everything!
I made up a hypo kit and it's all ready to go!

I would go ahead and shoot, then. I would start with a +1. He shouldn't have as much of a reaction as he did the night of the 30th as he has had two reductions and a skipped shot recently, and it looks like he was coming down from a higher bounce that time.

Thanks.
The 2 is pretty close to the AMPS, but a little lower. It could be an active cycle.
I would do a +3 to see where his BGs are heading.

It looks like he's surfing along. That's good info to have for future. When was he fed, at just AMPS, or did he get snacks?

No snacks. Just fed with AMPS
He has picked a bit more at his canned food from AMPS but I don't think he likes the flavour

Most of us feed several times a cycle, so I was wondering if he just ate.
See you at +5.
I'll give him a snack!

How often do you feed? I just got an automatic feeder in the mail. I am not sure they have quite figured it out LOL

I like this dose so far. I'd stick with it unless he goes under 90.

I used to feed Neko two or three smaller meals after breakfast, and a light low carb snack at +9. You generally want to feed the meals before nadir if you can. After that the insulin action is slowing and giving carbs can slam on the brakes of the insulin. I like the analogy others have given of a car coasting to a stop sign (the insulin). Neko got a +9 snack cause she was on Lev and that was close to her nadir. However, what you feed Glen may depend on what works for him. For kitties that dive hard and fast at the beginning of the cycle (which Neko did on Lantus), then smaller snacks (mini meals) spread out an hour or so apart at the beginning of the cycle can help slow the dive. Other people just spread the mini meals out every couple of hours the first part of the cycle. And then other people have grazers so they just leave food out all cycle and pick it up the last couple of hours. ECID.

Glen is definitely a grazer!
My cats are all lazy and sleep when I go to work. So unless I'm cracking a tin I think they stay in bed for the better part of the day LOL.
I'm thinking breakfast with AMPS (07:00) & leave whatever is left out for the day. Then I'll set the feeder for a small meal for around 10:00. His nadir should be around 13:00. That compartment can stay open until 17:00 to prep for PMPS. And then do the same for overnight.

I am so glad that you reduced to 1 unit as I was very worried about how fast he dove on Friday night! This is looking good and a good reset dose as I suggested on Friday . Looking really good and I like the way he has flatten out. You will want to hold this dose for 7 days unless he goes under 90 since you are following SLGS.

Yes, super thrilled! He has stayed pretty consistent today :)

If he drops to 90 anywhere in the cycle, he will earn a .25 reduction. So right now Glen is getting 1 unit of insulin and if he drops to 90 at any point he will go down to .75 units the next shot. If he has a 90 as a pre shot number you can stall without feeding for 20 minutes to see if he comes up above 90. And if he does, great, feed and shoot. If he doesn't and your schedule can afford being off by 40 minutes, stall for another 20 and see if he comes up. If he doesn't and you need to leave for work, skip the shot. Better to be too high for a day than too low for a minute .

ETA: Sorry, he is too early in this dance, so if his preshot is under 150 stall and do not feed and see if he comes up. If you stall and he doesn't come above 150 I would skip the shot.

Ok got it! Thanks! I was thinking 150 so just want to be sure!

Okay, that outta do it for now. You could check again in 30 minutes. The 57 isn't much difference between the 65 given meter variance but I understand it's early in the cycle and you don't want him to go to low. I'll be around for a while and make sure to help as I can or try to get a hold of someone else

Hi Tammy. I can't stay up. I'll tag a few members for you. @Ann & Tess GA @Marje and Gracie @Tricia Cinco(GA) & Harvey

If you don't hear from anyone more experienced, and you can't stay up, you can try to abort the cycle with more HC and honey. Set an alarm and test in 1 hour to see where he is and either feed more with a bit of honey or sigh with relief and back to bed.. He most likely will bounce tomorrow a.m.

Post in a.m. for dosing advice.

Hello!
Hang in there..tomorrow is a ways away yet! :bighug:I know it's really hard not to worry about the coming day..
Let's get thru this cycle first! So much changes with this dance that what we worry about tonight, might not even be an issue when the next day arrives!:bighug::bighug: There's always a way to work it so your kitty stays safe..:bighug::bighug: you will have options...:bighug::bighug:
You are doing great..these low numbers are really scary but you are doing great and see, it's helping! He's not dropping still..:cat:
You want to check in about 30 minutes between tests until he shows that he can stay above 50 for two hours without good. The first 30 minute test tells you if he responded to the HC or what you gave him to bring him up..
And you see it prevented him from continuing to drop..that's perfect!
The next test is at about the time we expect the effects of the HC to wear off..
You have the tools and know what to do..you're doing great! You just want to be sure you don't fill him up early on in case you need to be giving him gravy for a bit..
Think of using the HC to gently put the brakes on his dive..gently pump the brakes to slow him rather than slamming on them.

Thanks, Les. I know you've got a lot on your pate. ((:)bighug::bighug::bighug: )))) I've one eye open. T'other is sleeping.

Plate -not pate. The l doesn't work on laptop.

I am just exhausted and have 12 hours in my feet tomorrow. I should have been in bed 2 hours ago :(
Frustrated...

Well we just cross-posted. Question answered. Sounds like aborting the cycle may be the best thing for you.
Les, do you have enough experience to advise?

Hi Tammy.

Glen has earned a reduction, so has nothing to prove. If you need to get to bed soon, go ahead and carb him up. I don't know where you live (what time zone you are in), so not sure how much longer you can stay up. I'm in California and a night owl, so I'll be here at least a couple more hours.
