Elmo PMPS 234.....what is going on ????

No....the insulin WalMart sells over the counter is NOT Lantus (although some pharmacists will try to convince you it's the same thing)

All these have half unit markings and are the correct syringes for U100 insulin and are available from ADW online:
UtiCare
Monoject
Carepoint
Sure Comfort
BD Ultra-Fine

They're also available at WalMart if you have one near you.. Their Relion Brand 3/10ml, 3o or 31 gauge, 8mm insulin syringes all come with half unit markings and are only $12.58 for a box of 100 (although it seems a lot of WalMart employees don't realize that they DO come with half unit markings!!)

Ya'll...I'll admit it(as if u don't already know) I know I'm going to do this, I know it's best for Elmo but it still makes me bit nervous...vetsulin is crap but I know what to expect with it. Note, I am not going to keep using it but it is a bit scary to me to switch. If I didn't have all of you I'd be really nervous.

Chris, is that what you advise I go for syringes??? Add to nervous I'm exhausted from last night..got to sleep after Mogs, Linda and Kris help my hand and got me thru then about 4 hours asleep woke with leg cramp...was awake from then on.......mercy, I am a big ole baby .....sorry for the boo hoo poor me...

I use the Relion's from WalMart but any of those syringes will work....just kind of depends on if you want to order online or get them at a store nearby....and some people really prefer one brand over another

The syringes I get are $12.58 for a box of 100

if you actually bought Lantus at WalMart, it would be close to $300 for a 10ml vial (that you'd end up throwing most of away) or a box of 5 will cost you around $500-$600

THAT'S why we buy from Marks!!!.....LOL
I know, I know....I trust you all with my Elmo's life so I'm sorry I'm apprehensive max here....do you order only one 10ml vial at a time ? I get paranoid about not having backups and considering it has to be ordered is ahhhhhhh.....I know you do it so I know it's done ...just gotta get my head wrapped around this new way ...

and I don't need a script for syringes so you shouldn't either, but some pharmacists/stores will have their own policy

I just walk in and ask for a box of Relion 3/10ml, 31 gauge insulin syringes (although sometimes they don't have the 31 gauge and I have to get 30 gauge)

Nice run for Elmo! Loving it! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I'd call Mark's Marine and see about shipping the Lantus at this time of year. I think they sometimes hold off shipping if a big blow is in the offing. They should be able to give you an idea of shipping times which might help you decide.

If you have a gander at my girl's spreadsheet and look at her + 11 PM readings on 27Nov16 (Yeah for bright green!), you'll see how to do it. This was a morning I had to stall due to low numbers. The only trick is to use the space bar rather than the enter key before entering each new reading and you may need to put 3 or 4 spaces after each to keep the readings on separate lines and legible. Any problems, just holler.

Warning Momentary Thread Hijack! :woot:

Menace passed her physical with flying colours today. We saw a new vet at the clinic who specialized in reproductive endocrinology. Not quite a diabetic specialist but at least she's got the basics to the same level as my usual vet if not a little more. She was thrilled to see Menace's spreadsheet and had apparently gone back to review Menace's records and my email/telephone conversations with our usual vet before our visit today. This vet proved herself to be up to date (although she like my usual vet has not used Levemir ), practical (no infuriating wet food diet lectures), good listener and communicator and most importantly, very gentle but thorough examining my little sweetheart. I count myself lucky that I now have TWO vets I trust to look after my furballs! This visit was like an early Xmas present! Menace and I are very proud of her report card which in summary reads:

"Menace was a good patient as usual and was very brave for her check up. Keep up the good work, her glucose curves show a very dedicated owner."

I have FDMB to thank for being able to keep Menace in tip top shape and for all the progress we have made! I love FDMB! :D:bighug::D:bighug::D:bighug::D:bighug::D
Oh, Linda ,that is beyond fantastic

I'm going to use these since that's what you use...... merciful sakes, after a good night's sleep I'm going to be embarrassed at what a ninny I've been:(

I know I've picked all your brains to infinity and beyond but I have a million more with this insulin switch....feeling better about doing this tomorrow:)

Beth, you may not realise it but you have so much more knowledge and skill now than you did when you first started treating Elmo with insulin; it will stand to your credit during and after the switch (and you won't be alone while switching!).

It's true that you'll have to start learning Elmo's new pattern when he switches insulins (which, being honest, can feel like going back to square one - I felt like that for the first few days) but as you start accumulating data for Elmo after the switch each day will get easier and you'll regain your confidence really quickly! :)

Thank you, Mogs...I needed to hear that.

Beth you have not embarrassed yourself at all. We all get a little punchy when we don't get enough sleep and we are overloading our brains with info. On a couple of occasions in the last year or so, I have had to resort to giving Menace a BCS (big chicken shot) because I knew I had to look after me first or I'd be in no fit shape to look after her if/ when she really needed me. You have to find a balance and hopefully the switch to Lantus with a brief learning curve, will afford you more peace of mind and an ability to get a good, sound (and longer) sleep that doesn't come quite so easily with Vetsulin when you get down to lower numbers.

If I were a teacher, I'd give you a

Awwww, thank you , Linda....could not be doing any of this without you all!!! Love the BCS concept....Thai is hilarious...I'd be tempted to do that tonight if not for giving new reduced dose of thy meds.

Understandable, Beth. The Lantus pros will help you. :)

Elmo PMPS 185....25 minus small drop ???
That's interesting given he surfed so athletically today! Bigger bump to PMPS than I expected. Keeping things as consistent as possible is a good idea so we can at least try to pinpoint any "anomalies" so yes I'd be just fine with 0.25 minus small drop but if you are really tired and want to go with minus a full drop, that's OK too. Remember Beth, this isn't just about Elmo. It's about both of you so you both stay in good shape! I'm waffling here because of that big drop he did so early last night. I think this is your call Beth.

Thinking his big drop was related to high PMPS and then no thyroid meds??????????

I really like what Linda said about this being about you as well as Elmo. Yes, you want the best for Elmo but you have to factor in what you feel up to at any point in time. Tired and stressed - be conservative ... feeling more confident and have time to monitor/steer - be a bit more aggressive. Sometimes the beans forget that they have to look after themselves.

Feel like u all are cheerleaders with pompoms, cheering us on all the way from the Cold White North:)

Not ain't that the truth !!!

You are all the most fun ladies I have never met !!!! Seriously, I am not a fan of women friends, probably cos I'm a bit of a tom boy but you all, YOU ALL are the best !!!!:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Tom Boy here too so that explains the connection! Forced my way into hubby's weekend of fishing with the boys one year and put the guys to shame! :woot:

Yee hah!!! I knew it :) !! What fun ! I grew up with all boys so it was inevitable. Oh, and to the cat business ...Elmo +1.5 was 143...just gave 3/4 thyroid so we shall see what is what. His poor ole ears bleed if I just look at em :woot:
