Invisible water / cat splashes at the water

We're on our third cat that seems irritated or confused by what's in his water bowl. They splash and can't seem to sense where the surface is. Big bowl or small, no difference. I've been told cats prefer bigger bowls because they don't like getting their whiskers wet and some don't like water that a dog has been in to. We've tried different shapes, heights, sizes and what color the base of the bowl is. This is not an emergency, they will drink. Just annoying coming down first thing for a coffee and stepping in "The cat pool". We've had better luck with the waterfall bowl but it's so noisy and gets dirty so fast. Suggestions anyone?
And of course I once stepped into a dirty diaper in a parking lot. Yech! Did I mention it was a hot day and I was wearing sandals? My babies poop in a box and don't throw up on my shoulder.

Two of mine play in the water fountain more than they drink from it, lol. They're always sticking their paws in and paddling them around. Also, my Maine Coon likes too drink water directly from his paw, he scoops it up and drinks it that way.

That is so cool, Jan!

I've got a Cat-It fountain but it doesn't have flower power. :(

I'm sorry that you don't have the flower power fountain. Radar really loves its proper kitty height for drinking and I can adjust how the water comes out of the flower so it's just how he likes it. :cat: I think it is fairly new in the last year or so. Perhaps it's something to consider for a future purchase??

I like the sound of that feature. I think I'll put this on a wishlist. :)

How are you and Radar doing, Jan?

We are doing well. Radar is feeling quite good these days and the Lantus has been so much better for him this past year than the Vetsulin ever was. He's eating his raw food with glee and chasing his ping pong ball around the house like a maniac - usually until he cries for help because it's stuck somewhere. His numbers are generally headed in the correct direction with some panic attacks from Mr Liver who doesn't quite believe in greens yet. It's nice to see you, Mogs. I've thought about you often and sent lots of prayers your way in recent months. :bighug::bighug:

It's great to hear Radar's doing so much better on his Lantus - and that he's eating heartily and playing happily. I love reading updates like this! (((Radar)))

Thank you for keeping me in your prayers. They're very much needed. Thank you, too, for always being there for me and for my beloved Saoirse. I won't forget it to you.

I was told years ago that they can't see the water level in standing water so putting something in it that floats let's them see the level or like with the fountains it is causing ripples and waves so they can see it better. I'm not sure if this is proven to be true but one of my cats always paws the water first then drinks.

I just got a Pioneer ceramic fountain (https://www.pioneerpet.com/product/plastic-1/). So far I like it and Fanny likes it. Erik thinks it's something to watch carefully from a distance.

I used to have a drinkwell, but it was awful to clean. This one has a little bubbler at the top with a waterfall into the bowl. It's not too noisy, either. It's really easy to clean, and it's ceramic, not plastic. It comes in black or white ceramic and stainless.
