Tinkas AMPS is higher today, yest was 13.3 mmal/L and it's 17 today. Do I still drop to the 0.5u as advised since yest evening she was too low to have her dose? Thanks!

My hubby has to leave in 5mins for work and as its only day 2 I need his help with insulin shot so I've gone ahead and prepared a 0.5u dose and I'm ready to shoot in 5mins. Hope this is still right, thank you :)

Yes, give the 0.5 u. If you could set up a spreadsheet soon it would be a lot easier for us to help. The more data the better and it gets easier to make decisions when you have a SS for reference. Can you test at +2 and post the result?

Hi Kris
Thank you for the info I have gone ahead with the 0.5u. Yes I can do a +2 and post the result. Should I post on this thread of the original one?

Could you possible please tell me where I can find the spreadsheet again? My hubby will help me with this today. Thanks so much!!

Do I do the +2 after the AMPS which was at 7:45am or +2 after her AM insulin shot which was 8:15am? Just so I know for accuracy. Thank you!

You can post here. The thread is short so it's easy to find messages.

Perfect thank you we'll get going on her spreadsheet today! If it's helpful I can link this thread to the old thread as someone mentioned that. How do I do that?
Copy and paste the URL from this page into your first message on your new thread. We aim to help here!

The +2 will still possibly be food-influenced but because it's lower than the preshot BG it gives a hint that is could be another quite active cycle. I'd suggest testing again at +4 at the latest if at all possible.

Tinka seems to be responding well to the insulin - and her mama is a natural when it comes to looking after a sugar! :)

Thanks Mogs I appreciate the encouragement!! So glad to hear she's responding well so far:) She seems a bit happier this morning, as she's been really depressed for a while. She ate all her breakfast too:) Just hope she continues to eat better the rest of her feedings as last nights two feeding she only ate about half. I will test again at +4 and post an update:) Thanks for all the support you all are amazing, so grateful :) Tinka sends her thanks too;)

That's much better than this morning's 17. The 0.5 u dose was a safe one. It'll be interesting to see Tinka's PMPS.
Thanks Kris, yah :) So I can wait to do her next BG at PMPS? Or is it best to do another one before then?

And do I only do another 0.5u dose if her PMPS is higher than 11.1? If it's lower I'll stall and post.

You can do another BG if you wish to have more data. You're using Lantus and it's recommended that you hold a dose for 5 to 7 days under the SLGS (Start Low Go Slow) protocol. There's a Tight Regulation (TR) protocol where you change dose more often but I wouldn't advise doing that just yet. You need her to get accustomed to Lantus first and get the depot filled. Have you read about that in the Stickies on the Lantus/Levemir forum? If you haven't, I suggest you check it out.

If you can, I'd get another test or two in today before PMPS....the more data you have, the better!!

With her dropping so low last night at PMPS, I'd suggest you at least get a +11 today so we can see if she's coming up or dropping at PMPS time

Thank you Chris:) I did a +7, here are her numbers so far today so far:

AMPS at 8:15am was 17 mmol/L
+2 at 10:20am was 15
+4 at 12:30pm was 12.7
+7 at 3:30pm today was 12.9

So looks like she's maybe going up which I'm assuming looks more promising for an evening dose of insulin. She is also eating better today and seems more herself and not hiding under the bed so far today which is great as she's been doing that got weeks. Let's hope the positive change continues tonight :) I will try test again at around +10/+11 if possible, else def at PMPS.

Do I have to wait till 12 hours or can I give it a little earlier? I stalled this morning after AMPS so only gave at 8:15am but I want to monitor her tonight so is it possible to give at say 30mins earlier at 7:45pm?

Working on my spreadsheet will try have it done by tonight/tmrw. Thanks!!

We suggest getting back on schedule by no more than 15 minutes per cycle, but you can do one 30 minute change per day too (either one)

Remember, if you'd like me to, I can set up your spreadsheet for you....it really only takes me about 30 seconds once I have some information from you!

Wow really thank you that would be great. I can email you what we've done so far? Then just let me know what else is needed.

So Tinka is really hungry asking for food which is a good change. But her PMPS is earliest at 7:45pm. Do I just make her wait?

I feed smoky several smaller meals per day. I just make sure he doesn't have any food at least two hours before I test him.
Thanks Lisa I also feed 4 smaller meals a day as she has been really off her food lately so prefers smaller amounts. But today her appetite has def improved so which is great, so she was hungry and I was just concerned she needed food right away but I know I needed to not feed 2 hrs before her PMPS so just had to make her wait a bit. She's fine though as her reading wasn't low.

I've just done Tinka's +3 and it was 11.5. Down from 13 at PMPS. I'm planning to do one more BG before bed in about 45 mins so at 12am which will be just over +4. Do you think that's ok for the night then or do I need to do more? Thanks!!

That's a nice gentle slide.....I think you'll be fine to get some sleep soon
Yahhh so happy right now have been missing sleep:) I just did her her +4.5 hrs since PMPS and it was 12.2 so that's gone up a bit but I did just feed her. Thanks again for all your help, much appreciated! Good night:)

Love the piccie of Tinka in your avatar, Tanya. :)
Thanks so much, it's an old pic from last year! She loves to snuggle;) I'm hopeful she's going to pick up weight now that she's on insulin and eating better yah:) Just have to watch she doesn't get s bit overweight again like she was in the past. Need to find out more info on low carb food options for her.

So Tinka's AMPS was 15.4 at 7:30am. She ate pretty well and then I gave her 0.5u at 8am. Establishing a routine here;) So our next BG should be anywhere btwn +4 to +7 is that correct? Then PMPS. Or should I be doing two BG's before PMPS?

Also what happens if you ever can't give a shot at a certain time or you run late more than 30mins? Obv planning on keeping this routine tight but just in the event if that ever happened by accident? Thanks in advance!

it can depend on how late....but if you give a late shot, you just have to remember to work your way back to your chosen shot time at the rate of 15 minutes per cycle (preferred) or 30 minutes per day
