Yesterday

Hi Everyone,

The North Country is really frozen today: the temperature has dropped to 5 degrees and we expect it to be around -10 tonight. Very windy and the "wind chill" factor is already a lot below zero. The snow is blowing. Rusty is in his perch above the radiator. The ham for our New Year's Eve party just arrived. It's frozen, so I put it in the freezer until after we get back from our family Christmas.
I baked 2 (!) batches of cookies today: "cimmamum" (aka gingersnaps), aided by Rusty and Marje's Tobey, and orange shortbread cookies. Both came out well.
Tonight our little "film society" (a group of 6 friends) is gathering at our house to view Werner Herzog's newest film, a Netflix dvd of which is being brought by one of the couples. I don't know the title, but it's about the Internet. I'm sure I'll be scared to use the Internet after we see it, especially with the news of the Yahoo hack. I have had a Yahoo account for years (because of the excellent cat-health forums), but have only occasionally logged on and have never used it for e mail. Apparently my password (or what I think is my password) doesn't work. I tried logging in to change my password with no success. So I guess I'll just let sleeping dogs lie.

Now that is cold and I wish I had a radiator to perch on and it's only 17 degrees here.

Hope your gathering to see the film is fun and you'll have to tell us about it and the cookies sound yummy ! I just made chocolate peanut butter fudge. Now, I just need to hide it from me.

Yup! It really is yummy, isn't it.

The film was provocative (like everything Herzog does). I wish I had lived in the 19th century! Rusty was the purrfect host tonight: he greeted all the guests (they are all his friends), sat on the couch with me and ate all his dinner over the course of the evening. He got weighed today: 11 lbs., 13 oz. He gained 1.5 oz. since Nov. 29th, the last time he got weighed on our scales (the vet's scales are not very accurate). I'd like to get him up to 12 lbs. by the New Year. At his heaviest he weighed 17 lbs (but his ideal weight should be about 14 lbs now that he is much older; when he came to live with us he weighed 13.5 lbs.).

Sorry to miss most condos today. I hope all is well in L&LL. The current temperature (11:30 P.M. EST) is -10 degrees F.
