AMPS #s Increasing, PMPS #s Decreasing. What Does This Mean?

It's still early on with Ozzy being on insulin. Since I started home monitoring, I'm trying to see if I can spot any trends in the data and try to make some sense of it.

I noticed that Ozzy's AMPS BG numbers keep going up and his PMPS BG numbers keep going down. What could this mean?

How long until we can start seeing his Pre-Shot numbers going into the blue? I read on another thread about staying too long at high numbers and glucose toxicicity. Not sure about all this so just wondering...

I am also really concerned about being away from home during the day while Ozzy is on insulin. I was looking at Beth's spreadsheet earlier and she has her Elmo on Vestulin like my Ozzy. I saw several times she had some scares with hypo during the day and had to intervene. I work outside my home and it would be impossible for me to intervene during the day since I am not here. What advice might you have for me in this case? Right now we are trying to make sure that we leave extra food down for Ozzy while we are gone. But we also have a second kitty, Fig so it's impossible to tell who ate what when we get home.

Start low with the dose, get the basic tests in on workdays while holding that dose (AMPS, PMPS, at least one mid-cycle test around nadir time each day- can be AM or PM cycle), run a curve on days off and adjust the dose in small increments.

Thanks for your advice Mogs. I have been doing +2 and +4 tests in the evening along with the preshots for AM and PM. I work one more day tomorrow and then am off for 18 days. I will have a lot of opportunity to collect data over the next few weeks to see how Ozzy is doing on the insulin. I honestly am looking forward to this (well, not the multiple times per day ear pokes) but just having a better picture of where he is at.

I will be running another curve this Friday and look forward to the feedback.

Thanks Mogs. I know most of my posts early on were so dramatic (it's my Italian blood) and I was in such despair; but I'm actually a very positive and sometimes goofy person overall. I was just heartbroken over what happened to my beloved Ozzy. Seeing my sweetheart Kitty so sick was just too much for me.

Now my focus is getting as much education as I can so I can make sure he feels the best he can. And ideally, trying to see what we can do (if possible) to get him into remission.

I have to note that since we have him on all wet food, already in such a short amount of time, his coat has really improved. It's shinier, much softer, and he almost has no dander. He is also doing so well emotionally. This morning he beat up his brother Fig a little (playfully speaking), and tonight he romped all over the living room in the shopping bags we brought home. It's wonderful to see him getting back to his silly goofy self. I am so happy!

Terrific update, Joanna! Isn't it just wonderful seeing Ozzy getting better. There is a lot of joy to be had on the road to recovery; it more than makes up for the tears at the start of the journey. Ozzy the Pawsome is hitting lots of milestones. The difference the food makes to coat condition is truly striking.
