Question...I got way off on our timing again somehow. I stalled yesterday AM shot to restest, I think twice, and then went out last night for an event and got home and got his shot in another 30 minutes later. On the occasion that you delay a shot, or run late getting home, can you just go back to the original schedule on the next shot, or do you have to creep it back up in 15 minute increments over several cycles?

Taffy had +9 = 89 and had an LC snack for his early meal. I got his schedule all messed up, and we are really too late now. What is the best way to handle this?

Well I delayed yesterday AM and then was late last night, so I was off by over and hour so I probably should have skipped last night and "reset" this morning. But I did not. And I went ahead and shot this morning, moving up 15 minutes. So, in the future, whether delaying a shot or running late, I should skip if my time is off by more than 30 minutes in 24 hours? I need to be more strict about this!

Taffy had AMPS = 63 We are starting low today, but I'll be able to check regularly.

I agree with the others moving schedule by more than the 30 min is not advisable, If he were very clearly bouncing by +11 (ie high pink or red) then you could move it by an hour, but I am a bit hesitant with Taffy as he does like his dramatic drops.

Skipping is not the best option for Taffy's BG/cycle, so I wouldn't do it routinely, but sometimes needs must.
 
Are you still using a pet meter? If so, then Taffy earned a dose reduction yesterday at his AMPS of 59/63. Based on pet meter readings, dose reductions should be made at a reading of 68 or below when following TR. Again today, that AMPS of 63 suggests a dose reduction to 1.25U would be appropriate or is there something I am missing here?

As a pet meter user since we are not the "norm" here, I wanted to check and make sure Taffy was staying safe. Perhaps you could add a line to your spreadsheet to show where the Human meter readings start so worry warts like me don't panic. LOL!;)

No problem! It is there between 11/14 and 11/15, but it scrolls up and disappears. Let me try and add a permanent line.
Tried and I added that orange row, but I don't know how to type across the cells and it comes out all screwy. I am really bad with spreadsheets. Hate them. Tips are welcome. When I left my office job, I hoped to never have to use a spreadsheet again and now look...thanks, Taffy!

I don't know. This is the stuff I still don't have a grip on. We just go day-by-day over here, or even test-by-test, and I feel like my overall understanding of Taffy's cycles, etc. is very poor. I really need a better understanding of how the insulin is working in his body and how to tell what might be going on by the spreadsheet, rather than just flying by the seat of our pants. I have some pretty big events coming up soon in my life and I need to have a better handle on Taffy's diabetes management. I sure wish we could progress towards OTJ, but if not, I need to be more proficient here.
 
No worries Julie. Ok now I see that line. I think perhaps that Blue colour just blended into readings or maybe I just need to read more carefully.:rolleyes: Maybe a different colour (something not usually used on the spreadsheet) would stick out more for panicky folks like me! :woot:

That's what we're here for to help you make dosing decisions and support of course. About a day or 2 before these events remind us and we may recommend a temporary dose change based on certain circumstances.

Go easy on yourself. You've only been at this for a month or so. Cycle by cycle for now is the best anyone could do. They are cats remember and change their mind/ patterns frequently. Just when you think you know...they change it anyway.
 
Thanks! The events are not parties or anything. What I am doing is planning to leave an unhealthy long-term relationship and move across country! Yikes! So, planning is still coming together, but there will likely be a temporary stay with a local friend, and then an airplane ride for the kitties and me, and then another temporary stay with a friend until I get into my own place. It is a lot and I have been planning this since before this Dx and was going to call it off but I have to get out of this current situation. So I am still trying to move forward. The FD management and the financial impact has been a blow, but I am still hoping to make this change after the New Year.

I don't know if he would eat more.

He did not want the addl LC after the +3 so now I added some gravy and he is eating it. He was holding out, I guess!
 
Congrats on the reduction. :DWhen they are over 50, you can usually ease off to checking in 30 minutes. Some cats take longer than 20 minutes to show the carbs in their blood, that's something you'll have to observe about Taffy.

Time to surf Taffy! We are done with the sharks for the day.
 
Wendy took the words out of my mouth. One more test in 30, then if still rising, test in an hour just to be sure he doesn't make a u-turn when the HC and honey wear off. Nice work!

If he really zooms up tonight (maybe pinks?), you can do what is called "shooting through the bounce", where you give the old higher dose one more time to help him get over the bounce. Then you'd reduce down to 1.25 units tomorrow morning.

ETA: Below that, shoot the 1.25 units dose tonight.

Would "shooting through the bounce" mean I can expect to be up all night???
