I need some advice how to handle early mornings. Taffy has almost always, even prior to Dx, woke me early for food. He is pretty relentless, sometimes just purring very loudly on my chest, or very plaintive meows sometimes. If I don't give in, he may get aggressive with Baby and cause a loud tussle which gets me up. He gets hangry. But the other thing that he always does is aggressively seek out fuzzy things to eat. Dust bunnies, carpet fuzz, cat hair, bugs. And then he might regurgitate that back up. I always figure that he is pretty darn hungry if he is eating my dust bunnies, so I give in. The fuzz eating is even more urgent in the last month or so. These things occur whether BGs are high or low and always 1-2 hours before his scheduled brekkie. Now I have the added complication of needing an accurate BG reading, so do I feed is always the conundrum. So this is an almost daily EARLY issue for us. Even if I leave him a snack when I go to bed, and even if I get up btwn +7 to +9 and give a snack (which is why I have not tried a auto feeder yet, but I might). It does often coincide with my partners morning departure. that is Taffy's "signal". If he is out of town, I usually don't get such a wake up from Taffy.

So anticipating that this morning, and because I anticipated a drop similar to the other day, I set an alarm for +10 to get a check. Taffy has already been pleading with me since before +8. I don't want to feed him so the reading is accurate. But now that I am up, he is desperate and pitiful. His +10 = 96. I am stalling the snack

(cont'd)
+10 + 96
I am stalling the snack so I can see which direction he is going. But I HAVE to give him something after I test again in 30 minutes or he will eat both Baby & I. Small LC snack, of course, but this will influence AMPS. This is a daily struggle.

Do you have any freeze dried treats? Those are zero carb and might hold him off. Since it's happening almost every day I'd be inclined to feed him a +9.5 snack of some sort. Try the auto feeder or set an alarm.

He's clearing the bounce pretty hard again. If you give him a snack now, can you stall a little for AMPS? If he was still high an influenced BG this morning wouldn't concern me as much but with a 96 @ +10 and a bounce clearing I'd be careful. Are you home to monitor today?

I think I would definitely get an auto feeder and give a snack at +9 ish. What is your current feeding schedule now? Times and amounts? Maybe it can be redistributed over the whole cycle to appease his hunger

Yup, we try those every night almost. But he still tends to start this morning stuff when my boyfriend leaves the house, which is pretty early and anywhere btwn 2-3 hours before I need to get up or before Taffy's AMPS schedule. It is as if his digestive juice schedule is triggered by the departure. I just have not figured out the magic solution. And I always feel badly to ignore, because of the genuine hunger (eating fuzz), so I would stumble into the kitchen and put something in a dish for him and then try to go back to bed. But now the added complication of the morning checks needing to be accurate is an issue.

Yes he IS going down. Retest 26 minutes after +10 was 71, so 96 to 71 in 26 minutes!
I gave him an LC snack , and yes I can stall the AMPS, and I can be close to home.

Can your BF give him a snack at that time? Otherwise an autofeeder if he'll eat from it sounds like a good idea. Even a snack at +9 or 9.5 would work. Like Bobbie mentioned, playing around with their food schedule is often needed.

Keep it there now Taffy, no need for any silliness this early in the morning.

Yes, I think that an auto feeder is worth a try. If I leave food out when I go to bed, which is around +4 to +5, he eats it too early to help with the AM stuff. But, like I said, it also has to do with BF leaving house, so maybe I can have something ready and he can give it before he goes. I'll ask (cats are MY domain/responsibility). But that may be close to +2 and then I wonder if it influenced the AMPS test too much.

Right now Taffy is still hangry. He is being a real jerk to his civ brother, Baby. This morning stuff is just becoming a bigger problem, all around. Not to mention my daily sleep interruption!

The autofeeder might be real helpful for this problem. If the snack is a bit shy of two hours till AMPS, I wouldn't be too worried, as long as you are able to get a +2 after the AM shot and monitor. The no feeding within the two hour window is mostly for Newbies that do not have a lot of data yet to know how kitty is going to react to the insulin. You have lots of data. Even if the amount of food you give around +10 is 1/2 oz, it might be enough to hold him off. But, like I said, if he were to be at +10.5 - 10.75 I wouldn't be too concerned IF you can monitor the cycle closely.

I did a +11 because I wanted to see if there was any food influence yet or how he reacts to the snacks. He had about 2 spoons of LC and then some FD treats.
+11 = 68

Looks like he is clearing the bounce with some style, and he is staying flat after his snack and treats.
Some folk use poach chicken breast for a snack late in the cycle so that it doesn't affect BG, if you are going to feed a regular snack late in the cycle it would be preferable that it have as little effect on BG as possible, others have used the poached chicken or the freeze dried either when kitty is hungry or if they have a problem with acid tummy. Feeding too much carbs late on in the cycle can have the undesired effect of pushing those pre shots up when there's not much insulin in the system. When we get to shoot lower preshots often we get those flatter cycles that lantus is famed for.

How are you fixed this morning?
Supplies, are you home etc?

Sorry was out walking the puppies again, your pm shot seems to coincide with that.

Good job shooting, seems he was flat coming into pmps.
:D
Surf it Taffy.

Did you mean AMPS?
Anyhow, done! All morning cat chores done, and then some (fed inside, tests, shots, clean box, fed outside ferals, fresh water, etc)
Caught civ Baby Kitty retching over my laptop keyboard and moved it just in nick of time! He barfed on the couch, however. I love cats!
I miss my doggies, then again, my Dal, Comet, had grand mal seizures so those made quite a mess and frequent unpleasant wake-ups.
What sort of doggies do you have?

Yes I meant amps:oops:

They are breton spaniel x waterdog cross, only just 2 years old. There are pics of them in Georges otj vid linked on my Sig block.

Sounds like it made u sleepy.
LOL...No, just the antihistamines! And, I know ECID, however, I want to learn whatever tricks I can to help Taffy heal his pancreas and get OTJ, if we can! I'm hopeful. I have some BIG changes coming up fast in my life and this Dx is really further complicating plans.

Goin out to dinner.
+5.5 = 136
LC snack @+7.5
+8.5 = 203

We are running really late now, after my delayed shot this morning and tonight we went out to dinner and I am late...
But PMPS = 275
shot 1.5u

Hope you at least had a good time out to dinner!!!

I don't remember the last time I went out.....we usually do lunch these days so I'm home at 6 for T/F/S

OK now Taffy....no funny business tonight.....Mama's got a full stomach and I'm sure she'd appreciate a nice long nap to sleep it off!!
