Good morning,

The two brothers were granted their first ride out in the snow yesterday.. but I don't
think they spend the all night out. Big Brother was back within an hour and Small Kitty
very far behind, I think. Numbers this morning reflect just a little bit of exercise, no
major drop down so recovery from bounce will probably back to 3 days :(.

They are also back to the food madness. Even with a setup to prevent garbage can
intrusion the bag was fully destroyed this morning. They, or he, somehow was able
to get under the cover and scratch the garbage back until haft of it was spread on the
kitchen floor.. When I made mention to Dr. Roch about food amdness, she said that
diabetic cats do not have their cells receiving required food and believe they need more...

Will see if the 3 days recovery is back, quite a long time if it's the case, blue pants
will be needed...

Good day to all of you !

Sébastien

Yesterday

I hope SK clears the bounce today. When they are in higher numbers, they crave more food because their bodies don't process food correctly. Sorry about the mess with the garbage.

Sorry about the trash mess. Osha will do the same. I put a child proof lock on the cabinet that holds the trash can. Otherwise she opens the door, knocks over the trash can (which opens the lid) and scratches through the bag. Yuck!

Don't stay on the trampoline for long Small Kitty. It will give you a tummy ache to keep bouncing.

Yeah, I some sort of fix this up but they are smarter then me... There is a large rubber
band on the edge of the inner bin + a heavy metal cube on top.. The bin itself is screwed on
the floor. It's sad for them as the garbage bin doesn't contain any food :(.
All leftovers go to the compost bin...

Sorry for the waist of energy buddies, nothing in there.. ;)

I usually just read condos and don't comment, but I just wanted you to know, Sébastien, how much I enjoy your stories. I am sorry for the madness and the mess, but I do love to hear about their escapades every day :)

Thanks for sharing a bit of them, beyond just the hard data facts!

There's been a time where I tough that what's not diabetic related might be
seen as out of context in forum but people seem to like it :).

It also makes the situation less dramatic.

Think I've under estimated Small Kitty. Was sure that a lower dose would bring
him back to low speed for recovering from bounce but seems he's not :)
Might also be that I watch what I'm willing to.

Anyhow, will watch him up tonight to know if he's bouncing from a bad landing
during the day or still on approach. Hope no draft of wind will blow him
up or down at high rate.

Hey Sebastien ~ sorry about the garbage raid! What a mess and a yucky start to your day. The little stinkers! Wouldn't you love to set up a camera and see them in action?

What I'd like to have on video is who's grabbing what's in the feeders :) Not sure it's
Big Brother ! See them (or who') working on the garbage can could interesting as well.
Could put together a counter strategy. :)

Small Kitty is approaching the runway (green), not sure of the kind of fuel (food) I should give him.

Should I go with normal feeding (1 tbls raw) double same thing. Or switch to LC ?
On one hand I want the true results as if I'm not there during the day but don't want
to bust normal numbers.

He's been taken over by the food madness while I was preparing dinner (was smelling very good).
Now he's relax.

My last intervention in low numbers was not the best. What would you do ?

The feeder is loaded with raw right now and will turn in 30min.
.

Giving you a bump up Sebastien
I'd give a bit of the raw if he were mine to slow him up a little so it's an easier drop on his system..kind of so the liver only looks up and says What!? Oh ok....

This was not expected, it's now something like more then 3h past my usual sleep time. He got
his raw food and stepped outside (on the patio). Sure he would have no trouble eating again,
Small Kitty is a no bottom bag.

Here they are from a couple of days ago in case he drops really low again..
This is the section that applied to SK. It does not tell you how much food to give, I see. What we recommend is to start with a teaspoon of just the gravy portion of the HC food. Ir that doesn't do it, you give a little more, and/or add a drop of syrup. Each situation is different, as is every cat, so you have to know how your cat reacts to HC food. Some need a lot of it, and some just a little. Make notes about this experience, so next time you know what you did and how well it did or did not work. In this case, I'd have to agree you overdid it, but you aren't the first and won't be the last. In any case, he'd earned his reduction, and 47 is pretty close to "very low" on a pet meter, so it's not that much of an over-reaction.

Remember, the effect of that HC food will probably wear off in another hour (just in time for PMPS), so he could drop again. Or, he could bounce.

You want to try to slow the drop with the lowers carb food that works, so you are slowly pulling up on the throttle...

Good idea...did you print out the lather rinse repeat directions from last time?

Didn't think I would need it that soon

I will wait just a little, would like to get :

''If nadirs are below 90 mg/dl (5mmol/L), decrease the dose by 0.25 unit'' (he's at 95)

although it might already be applicable ?

I'd try feeding a little low carb food and testing again in 20-30 minutes

95 is still a very safe number.....we don't usually pull out the high carb gravy until they drop below 68 on the AlphaTrak

Thanks for coming in Chris! I was just finding where I copied your advice!
"Generally, what I like to tell people is to test for 2 hours from the last high carb food.....so if (for example) he dropped to 65 (which is below his cutoff of 68) you'd give a teaspoon or two of high carb food and test again in 30 minutes....if he was still doing OK and above 68 at that point, a little low carb food and another test in 30....If still doing fine, one last test an hour later.....then relax
2. IF after the first "intervention" of high carb food, he dropped back down below 68, you'd "lather, rinse, repeat"...and that 2 hour "clock" starts over....each time you have to feed high carb food or Karo/honey/syrup, that clock starts over"

You've learned your lessons very well, Leslie!!

You give excellent advice to the newbies and I know others appreciate it as much as I do

This behavior doesn't make any send, we're 4h away from latest nadir.
He's now stable at 95 (30min after last test) but cannot take any chance.
Gave him 1 table spoon of lc that was in the fridge + 1 teaspoon of raw.

Got to go sleep now or I'll be standing by the cofe machine tomorrow.

Think he'll deserve a reduction but will wait for opinions. Not sure 1.75 will
be up to the challenge...

Sleep well Sebastien

Same to both of you, Leslie and Chris. Sad I could not let him go lower...

Safety first and I need a tight sleep now, wake up time in 6h !
