Early this morning, at 2:10am, our sugar kitty, Tigger, crossed over the Rainbow Bridge:rb_icon:

He had been doing well, but for the last couple of weeks, refused to eat much of anything, even his most favorite foods. He was losing weight, and had increasing neuropathy. We could have treated him, but Tigger has always hated the vet/vet visits, so we chose to let him go peacefully, rather than subject him to the thing he hated most. We feel he would have continued to fight, just because he was a scrappy old man at 15 years old, but his quality of life would have suffered greatly. We don't feel that his diabetes was what caused him to be ill, but possibly a secondary illness that was undiagnosed and causing him to not feel well enough to eat and thrive.

It has been a long, but short, journey into the world of Feline Diabetes. I dare say that if it wasn't for all of you, all the advice given on here, the spreadsheet, and just the love, care, and concern shown here, Tigger would not have done as well as he did, for as long as he did. I am content in that I feel like we did the best we could for him, and for a while, his quality of life was very good. Now, he is pain-free, diabetes-free, and probably eating every piece of crunchy, carb-loaded cat food he can get his paws on! =) :cat:

Thank you to everyone who has given us advice, and offered support and care. We appreciate you all!

So sorry to hear it was Tigger's time to leave you, Rachel

Letting him go is the best gift you could have given him.....especially as much as he hated the vet

Fly free sweet Tigger and land softly....there are many at the Bridge to welcome you and keep you company until the one you love most comes to be with you forever cat_wings>o

I'm so sorry you've lost Tigger. You did the right thing in not allowing him to be stressed by vet visits. Quality of life is so important.

what lovely expressive eyes. He is at Rainbow Bridge now playing with all our beloved GA's. Thinking of you x

I'm so sorry that Tigger had to go to the Rainbow Bridge. All his pain is gone to be replaced with love and joy. It's those of us left behind that feel the pain, while our sweet kitties are playing with all their new friends.

He's a beautiful boy and it sounds like he had a long, happy, wonderful life. I hope he sends you a sign to let you know that he's always watching over you. Fly free sweet Tigger :rb_icon:

Thank you, Chris! It's been a tough week, but it's slowly getting better. He is definitely in a better place now, and I am glad we didn't put him through the stressors at the vet. They were exceptionally kind to us, and even sent a card to us afterwards. We already have him back home, in his little tin. I've been looking for a memorial urn for him, so hopefully we will get that soon.

Thank you again for all your help and advice!

Thank you so much, Kris. Yes, his quality of life was so important---we could tell he wasn't at his lowest, but he was on the way. He was pretty scrappy, so he would have continued to fight, but it would have been harder on him. He's definitely in a better place now, diabetes-free. Thank you again!

He was a character! Never liked his picture taken, so if you could get him looking at the camera, you'd better be snapping the photo quickly~! This happened to be one of those days where he just looked right at me, quite a few times. Thank you for your kind words!

I saw an example of one of these hand painted urns on the Facebook group ....you send them pictures and they paint the urn to match...they are magnificent!!

Here's the pictures posted in the group

They have different pricing for different ones too
I have actually been looking at these! I love them so much! I also found another person who hand sculpts from porcelain clay and paints to match your kitty, as well. She is quite a bit more, but they are both so lovely. Thank you for sharing!
