Part of me is starting to wonder if Mandarin and Walter's Insulin dose was too high before I went on my trip. Or how else do you explain the fact that they are doing better after skipping 6 shots (in Mandarin's case) or getting an unearned 33% reduction (for Walter)??? I wish I could stay home today to monitor... I'll be able to run home at +3 and then I'll be back by +6.5, but I didn't think it would be wise to give Mandarin his regular shot. So he got a BCS of 1.25 U (=half his regular dose).

It seems like after almost 2 years of this FD dance I would get better at it, but it just keeps getting more confusing all the time.

Alright, I better get ready for work. Busy week, especially since I didn't have nearly enough time over the weekend to prepare my classes and get grading done.

And it's only the 3rd cycle back on the juice for Mandarin after the skipped shots  Certainly both boys have created a mystery. Hope they both surf safely and you have a good day Christina.

That is incredible and is quite a mystery. You certainly test enough to see what is happening and would catch if they had been getting too much insulin. Let's hope that it's the start of a new downward trend and the interruption in insulin was a like a shock to the pancreas in a good way.

Wow how exciting !! Both boys looking really good!:cat::cat:
Haha maybe they got together and decided they didn't want you going away so they would really work the juice to baffle you into staying home and not having a sitter!!
Buster wrote his own rules that way too...we pretty much had to do some on the fly thinking and adjusting for him too...all worked out in the end! I can just hear Mandatin saying
"hey mama Bean, look what I can do:cat:"
:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Mandarin, this really isn't funny! :arghh::banghead::mad: Down to 48 and I really have to run back to campus. I made sure he ate another helping of Gravy Lovers FF and I left some more food out. No clue where to go from here and what a good dose would be. I will only be gone for 2.5 hours... but I really wish I would stay home!!! I feel nauseous about leaving him. :nailbiting:

Mandarin is still in the 50s! And he has really had A LOT of gravy. I left out an extra two cans of Gravy Lovers FF before I went back to work and the bowls were licked clean (so no surprise that Walter is running high). I don't even want to think about what could have happened to Mandarin if I had given him his regular dose.

Geesh Mandarin, only 54 3.5 hours later...IDK I might drop him to 2u and try that. His depot was drained and not even technically filled back up yet. But, I'm a big chicken so that's just me.

I was thinking of doing 2 units too... I just don't get these numbers and would much rather play it safe. He was finally starting to work the juice before I left for Montreal and I thought for sure that this trip and the skipped shots would be a huge setback.

After numerous helpings of HC food all day AND a BCS this morning, Mandarin was still in the 60s when it was time for his evening shot. I ended up skipping his shot to drain the depot (again) and start from scratch. Maybe today was just a total fluke, but he is acting fine, has a healthy appetite and there's no logical explanation for these numbers. At least none that I can think of.

Any advice for what I should do tomorrow morning?

How much can you monitor tomorrow? Can you get. +11 or 11.5 tomorrow morning and ask got advice? What he does tonight may impact the suggestion.

I only teach a night class on Tuesday, so I'll be home until +7.5. In other words, I'll be able to monitor the first half of his cycle, but then I won't be back until his PM shot.

He just dropped to 60 by +15. I gave him his regular LC snack and will get another mid cycle test. I'll try my best to get a + 11 - but Mandarin is not a fan of my dogs' early morning excitement and tends to hide.

Oh my goodness, Mandarin! What are you doing?

It would seem that something has changed in his little body. Perhaps Mr. P. woke up? I like Wendy's idea, if you can get a +11 or +11.5 and post for advice in the morning. I'll be curious to see what he's doing.

Hope the babies are well. Sorry Walter got into Mandarin's HC. Naughty boy!

~Does mandarin go up or down with his BG's when he stressed? like at the vets.
He tends to go up. When he was at the vet's the last time, his Glucose was in the 500s on their meter... and then he dropped into the 50s once I had him back home. He is easily spooked and likes his calm routine.

thinking aloud here

Yesterday morning I was thinking you should stick with 2.5u since he was a long term diabetic and hadn't earned his reduction, and he was at 3units not so long ago so I would be worried about his ability to hold the reduction and I hate seeing kitties in high numbers. This morning when I saw what sort of a night he had on the back of a BCS and skipped shot I was erring more towards 1.5/1.25u.

Going for the 1.25u or 1.5, may give you the opportunity to shoot consistently and see what he really does, with the six skipped shots, the BCS and the other skipped shot last night I think there is an element of wonky numbers going on, brought about by the inconsistent dosing.
Going to 1.5 u would be halving his dose from only 8 days ago, I probably wouldn't go lower than that, and it may prove not to be enough juice for the job, you could of course bring him back up to 2u as a failed reduction if the numbers warrant it.

Sorry not much help

another thought when you get that amps, you may find that he is sky rocketing up, or maybe he won't be.
If he was really zooming up, lets say over 200, perhaps Karen's thought of 2u is a good one, remember he'll have a couple of hours before onset and he could get pretty high by then if you see that his numbers are trending up significantly.
