Our rubber kitties are extra bouncy right now, aren't they? I'm curious to see how your different shot locations affect Teasel's insulin absorption. My vet has me shooting Hermione along her flanks.

I'd been using the scruff/shoulder area until recently because it was easier for me. I began using ribcage/flank are a few weeks ago but also started a new insulin vial. I've been wondering whether the enhanced (or maybe faster?) absorption in those areas was causing higher bounce numbers. I'd never had blacks before. Now I'm logging where I shoot on my SS to see whether there's a pattern that shows up over time.

Hey Kris, what's going on with Teasel the last few days... He's really bouncing around and staying in high numbers :(
Hopefully he will go back to his nicer numbers!

Thanks for checking in Ruby. His numbers are crazy right now. I think he needs to go up in dose and I'm doing that slowly. I've also been wondering if injecting in different areas is affecting absorption. Nothing is ever easy to figure out with Teasel.o_O

I was able to do a +8 last night - (AT) 20.4. I expected red or black this AM based on recent trends but AMPS today was (AT) 19.2. Hurray for pink! I gave him 2.8 u this AM.

AMPS was (AT) 21.0 I decided to increase his dose to 3.0 u this AM. He might have some resistance building after so many high numbers. I can monitor today.

We never know with Teasel, do we? o_O:woot:
Btw Kris can you post the sharing link of the SS because I can open it in my browser but not in my google spreadsheet app, and I figured out (finally) that I need a sharing link instead of this one to open it.

Hi Ruby,

If you tell me how to do this I'll do it. :)

If you have your spreadsheet open, go to the upper right corner and it should say something like 'share' (a blue button) If you click on it you can copy that link and then copy it to your thread (or send me a PM, it doesn't matter) but if I can click on it then it will open in my app so I can see it finally there! hahahha watching it in my browser on my telephone is really not easy! it doesn't fit on the screen and I need to scroll down big time!:joyful:

Done ! PM sent.

AMPS was (AT) 19.1. I gave 3.0 u again and my plan is to increase tomorrow - maybe.

At least I have past experience with this. He'd been at 3.0 u to no effect in early August and that's when I upped his dose in one jump to 3.6 u. The BG curve I did for my vet after a week at 3.6 u is the first line of data at the top of my SS. Not exactly a shallow smile but good numbers. He spent 2 more weeks at that dose before I came here because he was going too low PS.

This go around, I want to approach a higher dose more carefully but I do think we're headed back up into that territory. As far as injection site effect goes, the jury's still out, although I haven't had any ultra high bounce numbers since I've gone back to the scruff area. Previous data tells me that there was good enough absorption there to get some blues and the odd green when using that area.

Well, that's enough analysis for my foggy AM brain ... :)

AMPS was (AT) 20.2. I did a +4 last night and it was (AT) 19.4. I didn't bother with any later tests because I didn't think there'd be any action. I gave him 3.2 u again this AM but used his left side rib area for the injection. I debated lowering the dose a bit because there might be better absorption there but I feel the need to be braver. He's been high too long.

BG at +8 was (AT) 9.5. I might have some evidence about difference in absorption at this injection site. Then again, this is only the second cycle at this dose.

AMPS was (AT) 9.2 u. After much back and forth in my own head, I decided to be brave and gave him an only slightly lower dose of 3.0 u. :nailbiting:

Here's my reasoning:
  • he's been high too long probably leading to some resistance/glucose toxicity and needs to come down more than he has
  • we're now in what I think might be "breakthrough territory", previously unexplored because in the past I'd jumped directly from 3.0 u to 3.6 u (just before coming to FDMB)
  • I've learned that I can't look at what a previous dose given on a previous number in this range did to BG because he's so inconsistent in his responses - every day is a new day for Teasel!
  • reducing a dose too much when I have a low PS sets us back too long/too much
  • I think I have enough data to support using a BG of 9 or 10 as my dose reduction marker rather than a no dose marker. My no dose number is now lower, somewhere around 8 on the AT meter (maybe) but this could change.
Yes., I feel a bit nervous about this but I can monitor/steer with food/give high carb gravy. I see this as a necessary experiment. Fingers crossed ...

Hi Kris I'm happy to see Teasel is seeing some blues and yellows. I too tried to find a difference in various spots to administer the insulin but never really found anything. It is all very frustrating - but you've become adept at this
A few of us seem to have very, very difficult to regulate kitties - we just have to keep hope alive :bighug::bighug:

So nice to have you visiting here, Carol! I've accepted that Teasel is one of THOSE kitties. What helps me a lot is knowing that he's not the only one and I'm not alone in this campaign. :)

No, you are definitely not alone - there's a few of us lucky owners. From what I have observed, after a period of months or a year or so, most of the un-regulatable kitties end up on a depot insulin and, in my case, remain unregulated but Murphy doesn't have the big drops he had with Prozinc - although he still consistently bounces. Every once in a while, a long time unregulatable becomes regulated, and a few have gone OTJ, so above all, keep hope alive!!!

I tagged you in a response to Chuck's mom, Steph, and described my early experience with Teasel on Lantus. That scared me off. However, never say never. :)

BG at +4.5 was (FS) 11.1 - a lovely blue on my world SS. It would have been more like 10.7 or so had I used an AT strip. So far, I'm glad I didn't reduce his dose too much this AM. We'll see how the rest of the day goes.

Looking good, Kris!

We who are blessed with bouncy, reactive kitties sure are in good company here. I'm SO glad my vet pointed me here, I'd be lost without everyone's help and support! Broke, also, with all the vet visits :p

I'm also thankful to be here among like-minded people. It sure helps knowing I'm not alone and it's great being able to commiserate and help each other out. :):):):)

AMPS was (FS) 16.6 - not too bad! I upped his dose to 3.4 u because:
  1. it's a very small % increase at this dose level
  2. his lovely blue surf yesterday showed there's room to come down;
  3. we might be in breakthrough territory;
  4. I can monitor.
