How long did it take for your sugar baby to get "regulated" on Lantus?

Hey guys :) Hope you and your babies are doing okay~

Fluffy's been on Lantus from his switch from Novolin about 8 days ago. My mom has only been able to take AMPS and PMPS, no mid shots, says she's too busy (since I have been unable to come home until today from uni) :/ I'll try to see if she can do it more often, but she does have two kids to take care of.

Fluffy's AMPS she says tends to be in the 300s, and his PMPS in the 200s (I tell her to write the numbers down, but she never does... oh mom...)

SO I have no clue how low Fluffy's nadirs go, but I'll be staying for tomorrow and most of Sunday watching him to do a full curve.

I think I'll be increasing the dose to 1.25 U instead of 1 U starting tonight. I don't know if that's smart since I don't know how his nadirs are (my mom says he's acts really normal for most of the day, just for the couple of hours around his shots he gets a little cranky and stuff). But I don't think the 1 U is working that well and it's been already 8 days.

How long did it take for your babies to get regulated on Lantus? ECID but just wondering. :)

Your meter should have a memory of all the actual test results

Without getting more tests in, it's really impossible to know what's going on but getting a curve in will hopefully help!

I think you're fine to increase to 1.25 (especially if you're going to be testing more over the next several days) but I hope you can convince your mom how important it is to get at least 1 other test in.....if she can't do it due to work in the daytime, how about getting a "before bed" test at night? Most cats go lower at night anyway so that can be a really important test to get in.

It was about 4 months before I even started to see something resembling regulation with China....even using a great insulin like Lantus, this is still a marathon, not a sprint! Some cats will respond sooner than others so there's really no way to predict which ones will be the "lucky" ones

!!!!!! I found out she's not even taking PS shots anyways consistently???? I noticed because he's ears were much harder to bleed than usual... Oh dear... I'll try to get on her case about that as gently as I can xD

Thank you so much :) I have to remind myself to relax when his numbers are high and he's meowing like crazy! D: !

Oh gosh months? I need to be more patient :arghh: Poor Fluffy, he's even acting like he's in high BGs and I think he seems a bit thinner than when I saw him more than a week ago... I'm adding more water to his canned FFC t&g. It looks like he's going from the 300s PS, and dropping to the 200s in his nadir but I'll do another test in a few hours. I'm going to push for 1.5 U tonight and try to hold that for a few days, and to talk to my mom that it's more important to get the midday tests in rather than the PS tests.

My goal is to get him to stay within 200s to 100s in the next few days but idk how realistic that will be, and I hope he doesn't bounce!

Thank you so much both! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

to talk to my mom that it's more important to get the midday tests in rather than the PS tests

It's really not an "either/or" thing....it's just as important to get the PS tests (just to make sure they're high enough for ANY insulin) as it is to get a mid-cycle test to see how low they're going.

Good luck with your mom though!...It sounds like you might have a tough time getting her to fully cooperate :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Yeah you're right :( She's trying her best but I am careful not to mention Fluffy's testing because she gets really bothered or "overwhelmed" by it? She thinks I'm "too obsessed" with my cat? Not true, I just want my kitty to be as healthy as he can and live comfortably! If one of her kids had diabetes, THEN she'd finally understand lol. So I try not to bring up the subject a lot. It's a bit of walking on eggshells.

Thank you :bighug::p

maybe if you remind her that if you can get Fluffy regulated sooner rather than later, he has a better chance of going into remission.....and then your need to test really goes down!!!

Yeah I tell them that~ the responses I get: "oh he's old" "he's gonna have it forever" -______-

Well Fluffy doesn't look so good. He looks more ragged and yesterday's possible nadir was mid 250s. I wasn't able to do more tests from not being at home. I am making sure he is drinking his liquids (he is).

How long should I hold 1.5 units until going up to 1.75 or 2 if his nadir isn't going as low as it should? Several days? :(

His numbers looked so much better on novolin, even if his PS shots were in the 300s, his nadir was much lower and he was much more comfortable for most of the midday, but... I guess I just have to be patient. :(

It took Carter 3 months before he was regulated, then after a month of regulation, he went into remission - has been in remission for 4 months now.

But for the first few months he was bouncing and high constantly, and finally when he got up to 3 units (started at 1 unit) something clicked with his body.

WOW Carter's spreadsheet looks like a dream come true!! Congrats :)

And I will cross my fingers Frankie's remission comes soon~~ :D

And poor Mr Biddles :( I hope he's doing okay; he's a real trooper <3

I totally get it. I've received many comments on how exaggerated it is to give my cat treatment, or how crazy it was to spend so much money on vet bills (Taro was hospitalized for two weeks). Just yesterday my car broke down which sucks cause I'm barely making it out of the hospital bills, and my mother told me "well, it's either the cat or the car". On a positive note, my baby is doing so well! He's on glargine, but a generic brand, not Lantus, 5u every 12 hours, eating Hills and he is looking so much better, gaining weight, pretty hair, the same numbers Fluffy has, AMPS 300s, PMPS 200s. I still get a random 400 every now and then and when we tried to get him .5higher he dropped to 85 after 12 hours! i was super scared at the beginning because I wasn't getting nice numbers, then after looking through the posts, I don't think Taro will regulate any time soon. But he's doing better and that's good.

WOW. I am so sorry you've had to go through that experience, but I am so happy your Taro is doing well! :) There's a lot of anxiety about if our cats will ever get regulated, but the support I have found over here has brought me through the toughest times. Wow!!! Diabetes never makes anything sure, but I'm crossing my fingers Taro's numbers and dose will eventually go down to safe levels!
