Hi everyone, last night Perkins ate a big amount of dry food, it was time for his shot so I gave him half a can of fancy feast. Our other cat he doesn't like got in the room and upset him some. This morning I heard him throwing up but nothing came up. He wouldn't eat this morning so I had to open a can of human tuna and he drank the juice but that's it.He did have soft stool. I didn't give him his shot because he didn't eat enough. Later in the day he did start to eat again but he is staying in one place and I have to bring him the food. I think he got a upset stomach but to be on the safe side I am going to get some ketones test strips tomorrow, I know I should have already had them but we have so much crap going on in our lives no one would believe it. God forbid if he has ketones in his urine should I increase is insulin? He is about 17 to 18 pounds now and is taking 2 units of levemir twice a day.
Thanks

Elena, how is Perkins today?
Hi, thanks for asking, he is eating and drinking, no poops yet, I did find a small amount of throw up this morning but other wise he seems fine. He's just not moving around as much, we are going today for the ketone strips.

Hi everyone, I went to Publix to get the strips but the Pharmacy said they didn't have them. I am sure a few months back I called and asked if they did have them and they said yes. Anyway when we got home I called target/cvs and they said they do have them so I will pick them up tomorrow, Perkins seems better so I think it was ok to wait until tomorrow. I'll post the results tomorrow and how good the brand of test strips work.

Finally got the test strips, waiting for fresh urine. The negative and trace colors sure are close, I hope I can tell the difference on the strip.

Yes, those two colours are very close. Dip the strip, shake off the excess, wait precisely 15 seconds and look at the colour under a bright light. Even then I've sometimes found it difficult to distinguish one from the other.

Your right, I can't tell, they look right in the middle.

Many people on here say that if it's anything over "trace" on the strip vet attention is called for. Some also say that if you think it's "trace", a phone call to the vet for advice is a good idea.
ok thanks, we'll keep a eye on Perkins.
