I'm so ticked off at the glucose meter. I'm sick of the piece of junk, finicky test strips flaking out with an error code, when there was plenty of blood wicked into the strip. I'm sick of the thing turning itself off after blood wicks into a fresh strip. It'd be all peaches and cream if I didn't have to keep sticking my poor cat's ears time after time after time for one out of a minimum of four daily readings. I bought a new meter after the old one died. I used to never have problems. It doesn't matter. I smashed the piece crap with a hammer. I can't afford a more expensive set up the (can't)ReliOn Prime.

I'm going to give me and the cat a break from this. I'm almost out of insulin anyway. I'll get a new meter after my blood quits boiling.

Would you say you have a bit of a Temper? How is that working for you? Hopefully, you will calm down and return to taking good care of your cat. If money is an issue, I think you can get assistance on the FDMB. Marmy and I will be praying for you and sending you positive energy and healing vines.

Brian, this dance can be so frustrating. Which meter are you using? My Relion Micro stopped working all of a sudden and my Arkray is giving crazy numbers. I'm supposed to get another Micro today and hoping it is more reliable. Hang in there.

Dang Brian - smashing the meter with a hammer doesn't do any good...neither does throwing it against the wall which was my solution.

Smashing the meter was the only option. This is because my temper, my rare and seldom seen temper, reared its ugly head. The only way for it to calm down was to feed it an inanimate object. So after "HULK SMASH," I calmed down and my eyes are blue again.

Still. No more tests for the next 24 hours. His ears got destroyed in one sitting. So I'm giving him a break, some snacks, and some scritches.

Brian, I feel for you. I use the Relion Prime and only occasionally do I have an issue of it cutting off on me before I get the sample on the strip. And if I get an error message it is usually legit.

I switched from the Relion Micro because the strips for the Prime was so much cheaper. I still have the Micro meter and I will send it to you if you PM me and give me your address. Here's my concern, Tyler is running in low numbers and with out a test......I just worry for you. Heck, he's getting close for an OTJ trial.

Let me know if you'd like the meter. If I remember correctly the strips are almost twice the amount as the Prime. But you check into that.

I felt better after I threw it against the wall too....but then I had to pay for another one which hurt the pocketbook too. I use the Prime too, get errors sometimes and want to smash it also...if I could find that danged hammer.

I THINK Relion Micro strips are $19.98/50.

Yeah. I can't do the micro due to the costs. I'll continue to use the prime. I got a new meter. I don't get errors often, but when they happen, it usually seems to be when I'm already frustrated. Could even be user error by that point.

Hang in there buddy. I'm sorry it got the best of you. This is a really frustrating thing to deal with at times. Keep skritchin... Keep taking deep breaths.

Yep seems to happen at the most inopportune times too....like when Doc's in lower numbers, ear didn't bleed easily, took a bit of work to even GET the drop so I NEED it to work right. ARGH!!!!! But it's still a lot cheaper to use and fairly accurate for the cat's that have been doing this dance for a while.

Are you putting Neosporin with pain relief on Tyler's ears? That always helped my cats.

Hang in there, Brian. I know you have a lot on your plate. Tyler's doing so well. Concentrate on that!
