BCP PZI comes in two formulas, as you know. we started on the u40 formula last week.

I'm beginning to suspect mrbee is going to need the u100 formula of the BCP PZI insulin at some point. we are already up to 4 units on u40. we use the u100 syringes, so its 10u on u100 syringe and its starting to feel like a ton of liquid every shot.

i'm trying to figure out if/when we get the u100 formula, how do I figure out the conversion to dose? its the same as the u40 to u100 syringe conversion, but backwards. is that right? so for example at current dose of 10u on u100 syringe of u40 formula, if we switched to the u100 formula it would be 4u on the u100 syringe. right? head hurt yet?

thanks!

Baby steps:

1. What is the concentration of the insulin you wish to use? (U40 or U100?)

2. What dose do you wish to administer?

3. Please confirm that you wish to use U100 syringes.

If you give the parameters as outlined in 1-3 above I think it might be easier for members to understand what you want to do, Jen. :) (FYI - I found conversions a bit of a headfrell, too!)

sorry if my question was muddling! I cant think of any other way to ask it.

1. u100 concentration

2. I don't know that's my question. the u100 concentration's equivalent of u40 concentration. we are on 10u of u40 concentration on u100 syringes. so that would be, for example, 4u of u100 concentration, right? 100 insulin is 2.5x more than 40 insulin, so 10 / 2.5 = 4.

3. u100 syringe

I think this is possibly wherefrom the confusion may be arising.

Forget the 'brand/type' of insulin you're using for a moment and forget about the syringes and conversion charts.

Now tell us just confirm the concentration of the insulin you wish to measure. (NB: it is EITHER U40 OR U100 concentration.)

If you give us this information we'll be able to work things out for you.

sorry ok
u100

If I understood the original question right, you understand fine

4 Units is 4 Units....the only reason you're confused is because you're using the "wrong" syringes for the concentration you are on so to give 4 units, you have to pull to the 10 unit mark on the U100 syringes

If you go with the U100 strength instead, you'd just go to the 4 unit mark on the U100 syringes
