Started using U100 syringes

I started using U100 syringes since eye-balling less than 1 unit felt pretty unreliable. I'd like to get some eyes on Serena's spreadsheet and get some thoughts. Haven't been able to get mid-cycle numbers lately (in the process of moving, after which I will be around much more to get some)...

I've also switched food, from Fancy Feast Classics to Dave's Cat Food, 95% Premium. Very low carbs:

He is looking good! You might consider giving a drop of insulin when she is near 200 for pre shot, as long as you can monitor the cycle. (To give a drop, pull up a dose you are comfortable measuring. Let the insulin out drop by drop, counting as you go. To give one drop, pull up that same amount, and let drops out, counting, save one.). Now that you are confident testing and have some data, you could shoot under 200.). You may want to wait till you move to be more daring.

I know nothing about Daves. It looks okay except for the Alfalfa meal. Maybe post on Health and see if anyone else has tried it. The carb value foods give is not accurate so you really can't take their advertising at face value.

Hi Danielle, omg my little fluffy faceeeeeee soooo cuteeeeeeeee:kiss: Haven't seen you around much lately. Glad to hear from you again!
Hopefully your move is going good!

I agree with Sue here, try giving a drop indeed when she's near 200's. I'm excited for you that you're going to try giving a drop! this is so promissing!

I know there are a few others on the board using Dave's with good results. We are currently working on a new, updated food list, and I just emailed Dave's for the as fed values. As soon as I get them and do the necessary calculations, I'll let you know.

Great! Thanks Sharon :) Yesterday was pretty nice with our testing. She was 130's in the AM, I didn't give her a shot, and she was only in the mid-200's when I tested her in the PM. My boyfriend exclaimed "see, it's the food!". His cat went into remission pretty soon after he switched to Dave's (but she'd still been eating dry food and was getting less of a steroid inhaler...so I wouldn't jump to saying it was the food only!).

I have a question about giving drops. How do you empty the syringe drop-by-drop? There's no way I'm wasting insulin! Do you just empty it drop by drop back into the vial with the vial right side up?

BTW - the last two readings are not on my SS (left my log at home), but she has been within 130-150 for the last 3 readings!! Haven't given her any insulin with those. Should I do the drops at those levels?

I used a syringe I already used, sucked up water from the tap with it and counted that way. :)

That's a good idea to get the count, but when doing it with the insulin, where am I releasing drops? Back into the vial I hope. I'm at work, otherwise I'd check if I can see drops through the vial.

It is not recommended to put insulin back in the vial. It's only drops, so it isn't much to waste. And hopefully you won't be doing it long (anti UNIX)

I wouldn't shoot at those levels, especially if you aren't around for the cycle. Maybe the next cycle you can monitor with a pre shot above 150, try a drop?

Thanks! Sounds good to me. I'd hate to have her bounce at this point. We'll just keep on truckin' and see how it goes... :cat:

BTW our kitties look like they could be sisters :) More so than her actual sister who is a chunky short-hair, lol!

Lol yes they do look very alike! Is your kitty vocal? Tempest could talk the leg off a donkey

No I'd never put anything back in the vial. It's so little that when I was measuring the dose it was 4 drops in the amount so really not worth keeping 3 out of 4

She is pretty vocal, especially when it's time for food! She has the cutest little meow, more of a squeaky "mew". Sometimes she goes to meow and nothing comes out lol!

Thanks :) I'm SO thrilled, just LOOK at those numbers I'm getting now!

In addition to AWESOME numbers with Serena, I finally found what her sister likes to eat (she hasn't been wild about the FF Classic or Dave's Cat food). Turns out Venus is a gravy baby! She mowed down on FF Grilled. It's not the lowest carb, but she's not diabetic and it's better than dry food. It's been a grrreat morning for me and my furry children! :D
