After spending most of last night in the yellow, it's nice to see him transition to the blues and have out there all day steadily decreasing.

Jenks is having some sort of dermatological flare up that's causing him to itch big welts around his neck area. We saw this same thing last year, but thought we were done with it. The vet took some skin samples, ruled out parasites and infections, and gave us a cream that was totally ineffective except for getting the surrounding hair all greasy. Eventually, it just went away on its own.

One thing I think that I recall from his blood test was a slightly elevated mast cell count, which are the cells responsible for releasing histamine and triggering an allergy response. I'm wondering if Jenks has a skin allergy, which is promoting inflammation, which is what's causing our numbers to be so intractable lately. Do they do allergy tests for cats? If so, maybe we need one of those instead of a regular blood test.

But that answer may have to be delayed. I had saved up enough money for an interim blood test, but wouldn't ya know it, his brother picked right now as a good time to tear a back nail out, so he gets to go to the vet on that money instead. Oh the joys of being a cat parent.

Poor Jenks. I hope it clears up soon or you can find a way to get him tested for allergies. I hope his brother heals quickly. Sending prayers.
