You know, Fritz. The Blue Highways (one of my favorite books) are much smoother than the yellow ones. Try trucking there more completely!

Deb, I know how you feel these days so hang in there. Fritz please...break this cycle buddy. Hope he's feeling good.
Karen would you be willing to take a look at Fritz BW results? I have been speaking with Marje and she mentioned having you look at it too? I'm concerned as his cholesterol and several other areas where high. I'm no expert but it seems to me that something is causing insulin resistance, and weight gain. Is there something they can treat cholesterol with?
I have results from Feb 2016 and recent.Back in Feb they did the BNP.
I read that insulin can cause weight gain:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead: I'm struggling with all this because with his weight he isn't able to hardly walk let alone play. Every time he tries to play his asthma flares up. So how can he loose weight with eating what a 14lb cat eats?
I have him on a low fat low calorie diet. (Raw rabbit, New Zealand venison and quail. All lean fat.
I'm sorry to dump all this on you I know you have your own struggles:(
How would you like for me to get the BW results to you? E-mail or should I post them here? I have not added them into the lab tab on the SS.

Of course. I'll send you my email but it's also a good idea to enter each different result into the SS using a different column for each month etc. You'll find it useful and makes it easier to compare. Take a loot at Doodles labs SS.

Depending on how high his Cholesterol is (super high or just high) I've been told that it's actually pretty normal

I did see a post where Larry mentioned that high cholesterol like you said if it's not too high is OK. If that is the case I would be thrilled for the good news.
Do you know of a vet in Phoenix that is experienced with nutrition? I really need to find out why Fritz is so over weight? I know this is a problem.
Karen it appears to me that Levemir is not building a depot why???????
I am so puzzled about all this and I am driving my self crazy...... it's pretty sad when you know more then the vets:banghead::banghead::banghead: maybe I just need to find the right one:eek:
I'll go work on the BW on the SS. thank you:bighug::bighug:

I did come across this on the web
1. Hyperlipidemia
2. Nephrotic Syndrome
3. Hyperlipidemic
4.Hyperdrenocorticism
5.Hypothyroidism
Now if I can just find a good vet or IM to discuss this with. Who knows one of these might be whats causing his body to hold onto the weight.
If any of the members have a kitty with any of this I would love to talk to them.....

It's not the insulin...there is something causing insulin resistance in Fritz and we have to become detectives to figure it out. Have you ever looked back at Doodles SS say from Dec 2015 until present?

Do you know of a vet in Phoenix that is experienced with nutrition
Doodles first IM Vet claimed to be versed in feline nutrition but yet put him on Purina DM Dry :arghh:. The second one I only saw once because we agreed to disagree on the protocol we use. I would recommend trying Desert Veterinary Medical Specialist IM. It's the same place I take Doodles for the cardiologist. I'm pretty happy there and IM, Cardiology & Oncology is in the same office. http://www.dvmspecialists.com/ The office I go to is in Chandler of the 60 and Gilbert Rd.

WOW! Looks like a rainbow !!!! Beautiful blues & greens then what the heck..... health change (RIGHT)?
You deserve the most challenged award! I see a ton of tight patience PANTS:banghead::blackeye::confused::eek::nailbiting:o_O.
Yet you keep dancing:bighug::bighug::bighug::( we all have HOPE and WISHFUL thinking. It is exactly like you have said numerous TIMES it's not what we do it's up to the cat's body:confused:
I understand about the vets.... I tell you Fritz has been to over 100 different vets and several teaching schools in Washington and Oregon.
I am not a quitter. You know the saying when the going gets tough the tough get going. That is a perfect description of the beans here.
Once our work season ends up here in the Pacific Northwest we will be heading south. I will be scheduling with their office.:bighug:
My daughter lives in Chandler. We have property in Safford. But our home is where we park it every night (full timers in RV)!

We're pretty sure he had HCM for a while and one day he could compensate anymore. Many times the first sign of HCM is too late...meaning they are gone. If it wasn't for diabetes and testing like we do here he probably wouldn't be here today. It was really the only indicator that something wasn't right.

Once our work season ends up here in the Pacific Northwest we will be heading south. I will be scheduling with their office.
If you have an estimate, I'd call soon and make the appointment. Dr. Church is typically 2 months out for an appointment.

I love it! We recently bought one and plan to pack up and go for a few months but not until Doodles gives up.

So should I see the IM first? Ill call and send his BW to them and they can tell me whats next.
This is why I keep pushing there is something off with Fritz. I know my cat..... my goodness he walks a few steps and you can see he labors to breath. No open mouth breathing just labored. When he is dosing off to sleep his breathing sounds like he struggles getting the air out. Does any of this sound familiar? I was able to put most of the bw results on his ss. There is some stuff on the bw where there isnt a line on the ss. I wad not able to put the dates at the top.

I don't think it matters either way. I made the appointment with Dr. Church first but it was 45 days out. So we got into the IM vet earlier and Dr. Church did the echo during the same appointment. That was the IM vet who didn't agree with my diabetes management....she's no longer there:)

I researched CKD !
I don't see ever having my old life back:(my DH has been so patient but I see he is becoming less and less. More STRESS.:confused:any advice as to what I can do? He eats high quality protein low in phoporous.
Good thing were going tk the clinic in Arizona. I'm hoping they can help with that too. :arghh::arghh::arghh:

((((Deb))) you've got a really challenging situation.

My first thought is to wonder if the weight is real weight or if some part of it is fluid? Has any vet assessed that?

Next thought is metabolism - could there be something that's slowed his metabolism down so that he's not burning calories at a typical rate? I don't know much about cat metabolism issues, I'm just brainstorming.

If he didn't have the negative acro test I'd think it was definitely acro. Does he have an insatiable appetite, or is it a normal hunger?

In fact, I wonder if you might want to talk to one of the acro vet specialists and ask if they know what other conditions to look in to since his acro test was so low. I think I'd call Dr. Kathy Lunn - she spent a ton of time with me on the phone talking about acro and helping me make the decision to get punkin treated. I'd guess she is the most knowledgeable in N. America about acromegaly - she started the treatment program at Colorado State University, including running studies on acro, then moved to North Carolina to start a program there. https://cvm.ncsu.edu/directory/lunn-katharine/ I just called her, left a message and she called me back. She's really approachable.

Earlier this evening I was just rereading this link that Wendy found about insulin resistance in cats. Ironically it doesn't even mention iaa, which we see here pretty regularly in high dose cats. But you may want to take a look at it and see if there is anything new there, if you haven't read it yet.

Hang in there!

I really appreciate you taking the time to brainstorm! I will give Dr. Kathy Lunn a call Tuesday. I'll be checking the link. Im open to any ideas, thoughts and direction. You know for years Fritz has had an insatiable appetite. Even now as soon as I feed him he meows for more. Rarely will he go 4 hours without eating. At night he'll eat anywhere from 8:30 to 10:00 his last meal then wake me up between 2:00 am to 4:30 am. Even with the mini meals I feed him he's only eating the calories for a 14lb cat.
Im calling to make an apt. with the IM & cardiologist in Arizona who Marje and Karen go to. Im praying we get answers so I can help Fritz he is the most lovable kitty.
