Good morning!
Well how blue will Boomer's level be today? :nailbiting::nailbiting: We'll know in about 10 minutes.

Any suggestions? I think he's still within what is considered good numbers?

Boomer was on antibiotics for 1 week after his dental. Normal course for antibiotics is 2 weeks. His levels started to go up right after we finished the one week of antibiotics. I'm thinking of asking the vet for another 2 week cycle of antibiotics to see if it makes a difference. Your thoughts?
 
What antibiotic was he on again? My vet usually starts Clindamycin 3 days before the dental (if they are anticipating extractions) and keeps them on ABs 10 days post-dental (=2 weeks.... if you count the day of the dental). I think Clavamox might be different though....

But, as Carla said, this is still a normal number and it might just be what is normal for him.

The antibiotic was Aventiclav.
It could be normal for him. But last time when his number started sneaking upwards it didn't stop within "good" numbers.
 
I've never been given antibiotics for my cats unless they had extractions. My vet is very conservative with antibiotics. This could just be his normal. I have lots of records for Max from before he became diabetic and he was never as low as the cats that went OTJ here. Then again he was eating dry CD then. I'd call your vet. I've never been given antibiotics for more than a week after extractions for Max though.
 
A while back I was reading a new article on pancreatitis. There was mention of AB for treatment. Next sentence was if a cat had diabetes AB requires a longer course of AB tx, usually 3 weeks.

It did not specify if it meant anytime an AB was needed or just for pancreatitis.

Asked my vet what he thought. He said it made sense but also need to consider what AB, is kitty is having side effects and why it's needed.

In Smokey case he'd rather use a gentler AB and give longer. I do know the only luck I have with AB are Aquadrops or orbax.
 
Boomer doesn't seem to want his +3 brunch. He didn't come out when the dish rotated; I put him by his dish and I stirred the food up a bit; he ate a bit then walked away. I put him back and he ate a tiny bit more than walked away. Hmmm.
Edited to add that it's very unusual for Boomer to have appy problems.

I offered him a forkful of his leftover brunch and he ate it then ate the rest up. I left the fork sitting in the dish; he thinks I'm feeding him with it :smuggrin::smuggrin::smuggrin::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
We went out for about an hour then came home and Boomer sat and stared at my while I ate a tomato sandwich. Guess he thought there was bacon on it :rolleyes: He finally gave up and went to lay in his box by the auto feeder; he's now waiting for his +6 dish to open.
So maybe I just gave him a slightly bigger breffis this morning and he wasn't hungry 3 hours later. I dunno. Or he's just being a cat :cat::rolleyes:
 
Boomer's +6 dish opened; it took him a full minute to decide to eat (maybe he was hoping I would come over and feed him). And he ate a bit more than half of it.
 
Boomer left some of his +9 as well. I'm pretty sure I put more food in each dish than normal though. I'll see what tomorrow brings.
