For those of you who have had kitties that needed dental surgery, is it standard procedure for kitty to come home after anesthesia wears off (providing all went well), or is kitty more likely to be kept overnight?

They almost always come home the same day unless there's some serious complication to keep them
Thanks! Just trying to gather as much info as possible before taking Squallie to the dentist (my vet is afraid they will talk me into spending money I don't necessarily need to).

My vet will always do diabetics first thing in the morning. She gives an appetite stimulant during the waking procedure and so they are hungry as soon as they wake up, so take food with you. Then they are usually good to go mid afternoon.

Thank you for the info!:)

Yes, diabetics go first.
BG can drop low after the procedure.
Rocky's BG was low but he did not want to eat at the vets - he is too upset there to want to eat. Thank God everything went well and he was back home quickly and then I fed him.
Just keep checking your kitty's BG but they are vigilant at the vet's.
I hope it helps.
Good luck, fingers and paws (Rocky's) crossed.

Thanks! It's probably going to be another month or two before he goes for a dental (gotta save up all my pennies, lol) but I want to gain as much knowledge about it as possible so I know what questions to ask the specialist and know what I'm talking about! :)

Hi @Squalliesmom ,

Quite a few of my kitties have had dentals, and all but one of those came home as soon as they'd come round from the anaesthetic and could safely stand on all fours.
The only one who hasn't come home straight away is my old girl with kidney disease. She was kept in for a few hours more so that they could keep her on fluids longer, in order to help her kidneys deal with the anaesthetic.

Thank you for the info! The dental specialist he'll be seeing is about two hours away, and I don't want to leave the area and go home if it's feasible to wait for him. I figure I can always kill a few hours shopping, lol, and it'll help take my mind off worrying about him! :bighug:
