Still haven't been able to shoot Truman 8 cycles now.

It's been 4 days since I've given Truman any insulin. I did a curve yesterday even though I didn't shoot him. Any thoughts?

Honestly? He's looking pretty good. Heck, he was in green today with no insulin. And it looks like he is still coming down for the last several days, even with no insulin.

He is looking good - especially the 93 this morning! I think he is too low to shoot below 180, and then maybe only a drop, if you can monitor. We consider a cat in remission if they are below 120 for 2 weeks.

I find the cycle really positive! It's looking really nice, and that even without insulin.
I do agree with Sue of trying to give Truman a drop of insulin so he can get a little lower than he is now.

I have both U40 and U100 syringes available. I currently use U40's and the last dose I gave him was 1 unit. Should I try the U100 and give the U40 dose of .4 which I believe is a 1 on the U100? Also, if the bs is 120 or less not give any? Unfortunately, I am not with him. During the day so I'd have to do this at night and ice read they drop lower at night.

Well if you're not at home when you give Truman insulin, especially when he's being on the edge of no shot limit I wouldn't recommend it.
If you are at home at night then give a save dose, like 2 drops (when the numbers are like these) and monitor him.
Let's wait what @Sue and Oliver (GA) and @Rachel think about that.

If he was my cat, I wouldn't give any insulin at all if he is under 180. If he is over 180 AND you can monitor, I might shoot 1 drop. But only if you can monitor. He's so low already that I wouldn't want to do anything else since he could definitely end up too low.

Just curious, how do you give a drop or two? He was 296 tonight, but I only gave him .4 instead of 1 unit. Thanks!

Practice with some colored water and an old syringe. Pull up an amount you can easily measure, like 0.5. Let out drops of insulin, counting as you do so. Once you know how many drops are in 0.5, you can give drops. If you want to give 2 drops, pull up 0.5 in your syringe and count the drops as you let them out, save 2. it is a little tricky but sometimes handy. Now that you have U100 needles, you can shoot 0.2, which is a tiny bit of insulin. That'll be handy too.

Those are some great looking numbers. I bet Truman is feeling real good now that he is almost OTJ.

I'd be careful shooting a 127. You gave you a green preshot this morning, but he could have dropped very low overnight. What have you decided is a no shoot number - even for a few drops? We generally suggest no lower than 150.

Truman's numbers are definetly looking better. I exciteexpect a spike within 24 to 36 hours after his prednalisone. I am looking into maybe switching him to aerocat. I may also change up his dose. He gets 1/2 a tablet every 4 days. Thinking of tring 1/4 every two days and then slowly trying to wean him down to 1/4 every 4 days. His asthma is pretty well controlled. I'm wondering if a smaller dose more often would be better than a larger dose less often. The bad news is my youngest kitty (1.5 years) is starting with asthma too.
