How long do you have to apply blood to the test strip after pushing it in all the way? The booklet w/ the meter isnt clear to me on that.

I have been pushing it in halfway, and then when I get blood, push it on the way, but that requires me to take my hand off her ear and I sometimes lose the blood that way (she shakes or moves). It would really be helpful to insert that thing all the way before the poke so I can keep my hand on her ear.
The booklet says something about you have 20 seconds. I dont know if I will get the blood in 20 seconds though.

I tried experimenting with it on myself and it still took blood after 2 minutes of the strip inserted on the way, but was it accurate....I dont know. I poked myself a half dozen times testing immediately after inserting the strip, sometimes waiting a minute or two, and got a wide variance of numbers.

After I put the strip all the way in, I still have at least 2 minutes to poke and get a sample

I'd go ahead and put the strip in, poke and get the blood sample and then you just barely touch the strip to the sample and it "sucks up" the blood into the strip

I put the strip in part way, poke, scrape the drop of blood onto my thumbnail, push the strip in all the way in by lightly tapping the end of the strip. Then I can test with the drop of blood on my thumbnail. Its faster that way and easier on the cat because it is so fast. I also get enough blood for 2 tests.

So you do have at least 2 minutes to apply the blood to the strip? Why does the booklet say "if it takes longer than 20 seconds to obtain a blood sample and to touch the test strip to the blood drop, repeat step 3." Maybe I am just confused?

Yes....try it....put the strip in and see how long the little drop continues to flash....when the meter "times out", it'll beep again and the screen will go black

You can re-use the strip...just pull it out and use it next time you want to get a real test

Here is my testing basket. I partially insert the strip and can fully insert it with one hand. The container to the right of the meter contains Vaseline

I push strip in all the way then poke. You have quite a bit of time.

@Larry and Kitties not sure what I'm seeing in your pic, at first glance it looked painful LOL. Then I see it's a basket but still don't get it.

The basked with foam insert holds the meter upright so after you partially insert a strip you can fully insert it with one hand and hold the ear with the other hand.
The basket also hold lancet pens, a vial of strips and a container for Vaseline to put n the ear to get the blood to bead up on the fur

Oh, the Lancet pens is what threw me. LOL. You don't want to know what I was thinking.
