Nine days ago we went to the vet for her fructosamine test, result was 411 indicating good control, Cappuccino had also overshot her target weight so I reduced her food by a quarter and started reducing her insulin dose hoping I could get some predictable numbers and work out the optimum dose for her on the new food regime. Three mornings I have omitted her shot as I wasn't comfortable through not having much data on the new food regime. I managed to get a +5 today but am not planning another curve until I hear back from the vet about her fluctuating numbers and what to do next as regards insulin.

I am trying to be very strict with her food intake but she was into another kitty's special cat milk last night (anyone know carb values for kitty milk ?) but she is still all over the place with her numbers.

Not sure if she is bouncing or just intermittently waking up a dozing pancreas so I was going to reduce her dose to 1.5 tonight - provided she doesn't give me any more surprises.

She is absolutely fine and went on a little adventure a few days ago, disappeared for the day, probably got through someone's cat flap and stole their kitty's dinner then vomited it all over my floor. As it had been a no shot morning I was worried her numbers would be off the scale with the contraband but they were not too bad at all.

She still hasn't read the manual!

That is a very colorful chart. I'm not an expert. It is important to control the food - high protein, low carb. also for preshot tests, there should not be food for 2 hours prior.

Poor Cappucino getting sick and all. At least you are not having to dose much insulin.

Well after a couple of weeks trying to get her back on track she is going to be changing to Prozinc which I plan to start at the weekend so I can be around to monitor. It does mean starting again and learning a new insulin but I am hopeful I can push her numbers lower again and get more consistency in time.

Her start dose will be 1 unit twice a day with a curve after a week (provided she behaves herself, I have read the protocol but she probably won't). I have the 10ml vial so hoping it will last a good few months. The vet will be monitoring her numbers remotely and doesn't want me to change her doses too fast which I'm comfortable with as it will take time to work out how she responds to it. I can't speak highly enough of my vets, they are all fabulous. When I went in to pick up the insulin one of the nurses who loves her to bits was there so I showed her some recent photos as she was disappointed Cappuccino was at home and not with me!

The Prozinc you received is probably U-40. Please make sure to use U-40 syringes, or use the conversion chart carefully before using U-100 syringes. Your plan sounds good. And too bad your vet nurse didn't get to see the sweet kitty!

Two days without a red number, Alexi! ...And it looks like the numbers have evened out somewhat.... Keeping fingers and paws crossed that Prozinc works well...

Am I right in thinking/remembering that Cappuccino gets food spikes? She seems to be dropping late on in the cycle.

She does get food spikes sometimes, but not always. She must have known we were starting anew by giving me a 19.2 yesterday morning as a good start point. I won't be able to get any mid cycle tests now for several days but I will get a +3 tonight. So far I am happy with how things are going, the later drops were what I was hoping for as I want to try to get some overlap or be able to shoot a little later than 12 hours when needed. I am liking the gentler nature of the drops as well.

So, five cycles at 1u and now I have just had to drop her dose this evening. I want to try to stick to 1u for the week but she may have other ideas. @Sue and Oliver (GA), any thoughts on the numbers so far? I can't do any mid cycle tests for at least another day so am approaching this with caution.
