Hi,

I was wondering a really really stupid question about wet food : is it ok to give to a cat wet food that is dedicated to dog (of course, after having checked that the glucose, fat and phosphorus contents are ok for a diabetic cat in remission)?

I'm really interested in a brand of cat wet food : Terra Faelis.
With this brand, and its rabbit flavor, Capoo doesn't vomit any more, and his BG are perfect.
The other flavors of this brand dedicated to cats are a little bit too high in terms of fat content for my cat, but some of their dog flavors seem to be ok.

As I told you, it's a really really stupid question... :)

Hmmm.... I'm wondering if they'd have enough taurine, Sophie?
And I think cats require certain other vitamins/minerals that dogs don't...

PS. Not a stupid question at all!
.

Sophie, are you able to get Ropocat?
A few cats here with sensitive tums have done well on Ropocat...
.

Ropocat isn't available on Zooplus.fr, nor on Zooplus.de.
And what I find convenient with Terra Faelis is that it is available directly in shops near my parents' home (they live in the Eastern of France, just at the boarder with Luxembourg and Germany).

IF taurine is the only problem, you could add taurine supplement.
Or you could get some chicken hearts if it doesnt gross you out, or dark meat.

My cat is on a raw diet so he gets taurine through duck hearts and dark meats, which retain all their taurine because we dont cook them.

I'm a member of a raw feeding group on Facebook and there was recently a discussion about feeding a dog a diet that is meant for cats. I've not done the research myself, so I am just passing along some of what was said. Dogs have different needs than cats as far as vitamins and minerals go - one person said dogs need more zinc and iodine, as well as more calcium. They also need less of vitamins A and D. I think iodine levels (too much or too little) are linked to thyroid problems in cats.

I'd definitely do some more research to make sure that diet is going to be suitable in the long term. I know how frustrating it can be to find the right food - I've been on that road with Squeak for awhile now. Hope you can find something, Sophie.
