Good morning!
AMPS 97 :D:D:D shooting .1u

Boomer goes in for his dental tomorrow.
Instructions from vet Dr Larry are as follows:
1. 2 tsp of food in the morning "if I can get up early enough". I told him that Boomer normally gets a meal at 5:00 am and he said that would be fine.

2. The dose of insulin that morning should be half the normal amount. I told him that since Boomer was only getting .1u now, there was no way of measuring half of that amount and so I wouldn't give any insulin.

3. Once Boomer gets home, no insulin until he eats. I told him that normal shot time would be 8:00 pm so hopefully he would be eating by that time; last time Boomer had a dental he started eating as soon as he got home and that was after 2 extractions.

A plan of action is in place. Is there anything else besides the above?
Now the only problem is getting Boomer into the carrier tomorrow morning. He's a strong boy and it takes both of us to get him into it and I hurt my back during a newborn session yesterday

:D:D:D It sounds like a good plan to me. You might want to make sure you have some baby food around just in case Boomer doesn't want to eat his regular food. I hope your back feels better soon.

Nice start for Boomer!

Baby food should be all meat with nothing else. I have purchase Beechnut chicken and chicken broth or turkey and turkey broth.

Will be sending good dental vines to you!

Sounds like a good plan!!!

It always amazes me how each vet gives different instructions I'm told no food and no insulin the morning of a dental. Others have been given advice like you got. I hope this is the ticket back to the Falls.:bighug:

Doodles won't touch baby food either although I've only tried it a few times. I probably wouldn't give insulin the night returning from the dental unless he's super high. I've seen cats tank with anesthesia but of course ECID...just be extra careful even if he eats.

I'm glad your vet is letting him have a small amount of food. It is so much better for them especially if the dental is not for at least three hours. Everything else sounds great.

One other thing you might want to do is run to Walmart or Target if you have it and buy some baby socks. It is usually very cold in those rooms and with anesthesia, they can lose some body temp. Our vet has heated pads they lay on but I always take the baby socks for their feet so they don't lose any heat that way (which they will do). I'm sure you've seen the photo of Gracie with the little booties on

she was such a sweetheart about it.

Good luck tomorrow!

My boys definitely like the Gerber's better (even though it has cornstarch in it and is probably higher in carbs). But it's a good thing to have on hand, just in case.

The instructions look really reasonable and I am glad that he won't have to fast for 12 hours. I'm sure Boomer appreciates that too!

I was heading to Walmart today so I checked there for baby food; they had very little choice and nothing at all with just meat. Boomer has to be at vetty at 9:00 tomorrow so I'll stop at our local grocery store on the way home.
