My cats BG has been way too high for weeks now and the higher dose of insulin isn't helping much. He is on D/M (strictly wet until last week, now mostly wet with a little dry mixed in).

Last night, I fed him just a small amount of the wet D/M mixed with mostly organic boiled chicken thigh. For the first time in WEEKS his BG came down to the 400s. I understand we may have some underlying issues here, but I'm wondering if anyone else ever saw BG's that were much too high while feeding D/M?

I don't understand how to decipher which commercial brands are appropriate, or which have less carbs in them so I'm hoping someone here can tell me what you have used to replace D/M?

I'm also asking because it's no longer in my budget to buy D/M at 2$ a can while my other cat is on Hill's S/O for her crystals.

My goodness....when did my cats become more expensive than my monthly car payment?? :(

Here is a list of low-carb commercial foods.

Just note the the canned DM has about 3% of calories from carbs wem the list is under about 8% (some varieties may have gone up since the list was published).
It may be the ingredients in the canned DM that is causing the high BG and not really the carbs.
I would just try a low-card commercial canned and see what happens. The dry DM is higher in % carbs than the commercial canned on the list

Thank you! Can I just ask- how do you know what the calorie/carb count is? I've tried reading the labels on the canned food but I can't figure out that type of info....

The carb % is not listed on the label. That list and a few other lists are the best way to find the carb listing.

This list breaks down most commercial canned foods, but pay close attention to the 10% and under canned foods specifically. :)
