Last week's post

Hello everyone in FD land! Ivana would like to report that she's had a really good week and is still green :D:D:D

Something has been happening in the past week though, and that's that she is quite a bit hungrier. When she first became regulated, she didn't eat much at all and we reduced her serving to 1/2 tin x 4 per day. She lost a bit too much weight though so we increased her to 2/3-3/4 tin x 4 day. It was all going fine except she started to have some CKD vomits so we're trying to make sure she always has a little something in her tummy. Turns out she want a bit more than a little in her tummy, and if we caved in to her demands she'd be eating 4 full tins per day! I admit that I was a bit nervous about her test today incase the increased appetite was linked to higher BGs, but it's not that... I suppose maybe she just feels uncomfortable with an empty tummy due to the acid issue, so wants to eat more. Or maybe because it's cold. Or maybe I'm just overthinking it. I dunno... she's got a vet appointment next Saturday so I will talk to the vet about it.

In other news, you may remember the night-time yowling issue we had a few weeks ago, and it turned out Ivana is losing her night vision and so the yowling when we turned the lights off was because she couldn't see. So we installed nightlights in the loungeroom, kitchen and her ensuite (littertray), where she's likely to need to go through the night. It worked for a while, but she's been yowling again lately. Not sure what's going on, but considering contacting the animal communicator we've used previously to find out straight from the horse's mouth. Hubby is not so keen on that idea as he thinks psychic stuff is a load of BS, but it's driving us nuts at night and she's obviously distressed about something and I'd rather cover all bases.

Anyway, here's some cute photos of the Princess

Tara, has her thyroid been tested lately? Losing weight while being hungry and yowling are two symptoms of Hyper T. I would ask the vet to do a T4 when you take her for her upcoming checkup.

Good to know that she's still spending her time in the lagoon. I hope it's warm enough for her in the winter! I hear you're having some chilly weather down there.

Yes, her T4 got tested about 3 weeks ago, results are in her ss on the labs tab - T4 in normal range. I specifically asked for that test for reasons that I can't remember now, maybe it was CKD related symptoms. I'm wondering now if it is just a cold weather thing, goodness knows I eat more when it's chilly so perhaps kitties are the same. We're currently sitting on the lounge with the aircon on heater mode, and Missy is sitting on my lap while I twist myself into a pretzel to use the laptop, but it's worth it :-)

I love the pictures. It's nice to know Ivana is still in the lagoon. I hope the increased appy is just because it's cold. The yowling could be age related. I hope you get some answers at the vet next Saturday.

Oh oh oh, some exciting news that I forgot to add - Ivana actually sat on someone else's lap this week! Hubby's son was visiting for a few days, and Ivana walked across his lap, plopped herself down for about 10sec, then got up because I walked into the room and might have had food haha. So the lap-training is really working!

I wonder if the yowling is age-related too Tara. I am glad that she is becoming a great lap girl! Such a beautiful girl she is! Hope the vetty visit goes well and you find a simple answer to the yowling!

Great that Ivana still enjoys the lagoon and I am relieved to hear that her thyroid is all normal. How is her LB habit, pooping normally ? Any constipation? That can make them uncomfortable. How did you find out that she was losing her night vision? Maybe that is enough to disorient her and make her yowl?

Oops sorry for the late response, I missed the notification that I had more replies.

I wonder if the yowling is age-related too Tara.
I guess there's probably lots of things it could be from, we truly thought we'd figured it out with the nightlights, but seemed to only work temporarily. I guess if it's age-related then it means nothing sinister is going on, but at the same time we can't fix her age either so I guess we'll just keep rolling with it.

She is going as normal, about every second day or so. She's still on Miralax twice a day (except when I forget sometimes).

How did you find out that she was losing her night vision? Maybe that is enough to disorient her and make her yowl?
Yes that's what we thought too, because the yowling would always start a minute or two after we turned off all the lights at night, regardless of what the actual time was. We figured that when you first turn off lights it always seems much darker til your eyes adjust. That's when we got the nightlights, although Ivana is still yowling through the night at odd times, like 1.30am last night (well and truly after the lights had been turned off!). At her last vet visit, the vet looked at her eyes and said she saw evidence of some small bleeds in her retinas, likely from the CKD, so that could definitely be contributing.
