This may be a stupid question, but is Humalog the same thing as humulin?
Thanks, BJ. Drat. I was hoping it was the same thing and could be used for cats, I know someone who has dozens of extra bottles they are getting rid of, seems a shame it should just be thrown away when it could maybe help someone.No.
"Humalog® is used to treat people with diabetes for the control of blood sugar. Humalog® Mix75/25™ (75% insulin lispro protamine suspension and 25% insulin lispro injection [rDNA origi I was hoping it could be used for cats, I know someone who is getting rid of a lot of itn]) and Humalog® Mix50/50™ (50% insulin lispro protamine suspension and 50% insulin lispro injection [rDNA origin])" (http://www.humalog.com/index.aspx)
vs
"HUMULIN® (HU-mu-lin) N
(human insulin [rDNA origin] isophane suspension)" (http://www.humulin.com/other-humulin-products.aspx)
Thanks!Humulin is Eli Lilly's trade name for a family of Recombinant DNA origin human insulins. They include N (sometimes called NPH), and R (very fast actions) and mixture of the two. Only N/NPH is OK, but not that good, for cats.
Humalog is Eli Lilly's trade name for a family fast acting insulin, faster than even R. It is not suitable for cats. It also comes mixed with other insulins like Humulin
