Total understand where you are coming from, me and my mom are in the same boat. I'm new here to so I can't give any good advice yet like other can, but it sounds like you are taking good care of Kirby. Hang in there.
THANK you very much!!!

Katie, we've all been there. When you're new at this, it's scary. You want to do what is best for your baby, but you're not sure what that is. But you ARE doing the best for your baby. A lot of people put their cat to sleep, and you are treating your cat. I know it is overwhelming...but ask all the questions you have! We're happy to h elp!

How are things this morning, Katie? What number did you get before breakfast this morning? Remember, no shot under 200. Instead stall. Wait 20 minutes without feeding and retest. You want to be sure the number is rising, not falling and over 200.

hi katie
i was asking what brand of glucometer. just curious. you said "they" (the vet?) sold you one, for $118? which would be a lot for a glucometer. maybe i got the wrong end of the stick.

its overwhelming but it does get better.
No I can't afford the one from vet...using human meter. I let them talk me into their 118$ insulin.
He'll be starting Novolin N when that PZI is done. Tks!

He's great this morning...174! Good mood..playing, grooming, less drink/peeling. Thanks!!!

Can you stall and retest? You really want him going up, not down and nearer 200. If he is at 200 and you will be home to monitor, especially in that 5-7 hour timeframe, what would you think about giving him a little less than you did last night - maybe around 1.5

His numbers are very encouraging!

I gave 1 unit. Time to retest!

Did great this morning, 174! Waited, fed and just gave 1 unit instead of 2. I'm thinking of changing vets. Not comfortable with the different answers I get depending on who I'm talking to. Time to retest!

Hello Katie and Kirby. I would like you to read this. I really think it will give you a better understanding of how the vet should be helping you etc. jfm.sagepub.com/content/17/3/235.full.pdf+html
What area are you in? We may have a member near you that can recommend a vet.
If youwould like to use lantus alls you need is a prescription from the vet then you can order a box of 5 pens that will last about a year kept in the fridge for under $200.00. We order lantus from here. https://rxcanada4less.com/index.html
did you set up a spreadsheet yet?

I'm in Croydon, PA. NO spreadsheet...I keep a journal. I will b using Novolin N when the PZI is done. It's $25 at Wal-Mart. I'll read those links, been busy today and in a lot of pain! I do wanna change vets. Thank you so very much for caring! :cat: Oh, and I will ask the vet about the Lantus.

The novolin is not recommended. I guess I should of asked what your goal is with treating your cats diabetes. Are you going for remission? The spreadsheet will help people on the forum if you asking for dosing advice. Are you still feeding dry food or on a low carb wet food? There is also the financial help links. http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/financial-help-links.131190/
diabetic cats in needs help people get insulin if you qualify.

Vet days it's fine. Both are long acting. No dry food. Doing great today. Ask my goal??? I want him well! Remission would be great but that's a longshot I hear.

Remission is not a long shot. Seriously start educating yourself on this forum and the links I gave you. There are a few members on this forum who achieved remission and with more than one cat. The crucial time is at the beginning. It all starts with the type of insulin and diet. There are list on here for low carb wet food.
@Chris & China - maybe you can explain this all better than i can please

Yes, I'm sure I would. How do I apply?

The PZI is a good insulin. How much do you have left? He is using less insulin in the last few cycle and this is a good thing. If I were you, I'd get used to PZI and learn how it works and work with it. Once you get down to the end of the vial, we can get you more info on alternatives.

What number did you get tonight? Did you get a mid cycle number?
