Last Condo

More lovely green numbers. Not the AMPS I would prefer, but we're going to just ignore that for now.

Appy is not great. Harvey ate a few bits of his t/f/s meal and refused breakfast. I gave him the Ond & Cypro, and he ate a little more, but even with a fresh can of something different, he walked away. I'm thinking it has to do with the Cosequin in it. So I offered some food with no supplements in it, and he ate it. I think I have my answer. In the interest of getting the supplements into him, I put the Cosequin and L-lysine (which he also won't eat) in a syringe with some water and squirted it in his mouth, like I was assist feeding. He didn't like it, but he swallowed it. This may be the way he gets his supplements from now on. I could put them in small enough gelcaps to pill him with them, but it would be multiple gelcaps for each dose, and I think one syringe with everything is easier on both of us. Whatever works!

Yesterday I just got busy doing stuff around the house and never got to sit down at the PC long enough to do a condo. You didn't miss anything important! ;):p

I have to get busy making Mark's birthday cheesecake. I almost forgot about it (his birthday is tomorrow), and this morning it just popped into my head. I must be getting old. I've been making him a cheesecake on his birthday for 32 years! How could I forget?:facepalm:

Happy Father's Day to all the daddybeans out there.

Sending healing vines to all in need and hugs to all their beans. :bighug:

Have you asked your vets if they think l-lysine is worth even giving? I've read that it hasn't been proven to be effective and my vet confirmed that the latest research says it doesn't really work. I'm curious to see what other vets think.

I've noticed you start reading and answering like I do before getting to starting a condo. I hope Harvey's appy improves tonight. Is it crazy hot out your way? I'm sitting in front of a fan.

Not specifically, but they are on board with my giving it. Both ophthalmologists that I have taken my cats to recommend it (one of those is at UCD).

Yeah, because that doesn't take as long as doing the condo, and I like to check to see if anyone has an issue going on or needs help. Of course, that often results in my running out of time to do my condo!

Is it crazy hot out your way?
I wouldn't say it's "crazy hot" - that would be Phoenix, where I hear it's supposed to hit 120 today!!! YOW! But we're plenty warm - 89. That's just a preface to this coming week - supposed to get up to 101 by Saturday. Just two days ago we were barely at 70 (and I was loving it)!

Party in the shallow end of the lagoon. Nice and safe. :D

I've given up on Cosequin as it didn't seem to do much for either kitty. I do have some meds I'm doing by syringe, but I make a pot of chicken (or turkey) stock just for the cats. And I mix the meds with stock and that seems to go down better. One of Neko's meds (Vetmedin) makes her foam if it's just with water, but with stock it's acceptable. And right now I'm doing the same as you, trying to balance number of pilling/gelcapping sessions vs. syringe which is so much easier.

And thanks for reminding me I should probably do something about a cake for DM for this Wedesday. Nice to have more than a day's notice. ;)

I'm glad you found out you can syringe the cosequin and l-lysine. I hope Harvey keeps eating for you. Happy Birthday to Mark.

I spend way too much time putting stuff in size 5 capsules:banghead:
Rico has become very tolerant--I am experimenting with the Boiron homeopathic nux vomica for nausea and he has been getting the arnica pellets for pain (leg) they seem to help-
You don't have to "push" them down they are so small and no taste -- I am hoping the nux vomica works at least enough for when we are gone a few days for my sitter--
He normally get onadestron 2-3 x a day-but he will probably bite her:eek:

Nice work on the meds! I am still amazed that my pet-sitter was able to pill my civvie, Sassy. She is a "high-spirited" little girl who is not afraid to show her opinion. And her opinion on something - say, pets - can change from one second to the next. Glad that my dogs are a lot easier... I could probably throw the pill on the floor and they would still happily eat it.

Rusty still gets l lysine, but I'm not sure what it does for him. I just mix a little imto his food. It reputedly has no taste.

Happy birthday to Mark. Both Edward and I completely forgot our anniversary (#47) this spring!

Yo Deputy Harvey, good job today. Tomorrow at the party we'll all have to keep our eyes on the kitties!

A big BLEAH! to that PMPS!!! :( At least it's still blue...

he will probably bite her
Jayla, have you tried a pill popper? I could never get the pill in the cat until I got a popper. Now it's relatively easy (once you get the mouth open ).
I put so much stuff in gelcaps for Minka that I ended up buying a gizmo that made it easier to load them. With my stiff fingers it was a nightmare before. It still wasn't easy with the gizmo, but much easier than without it. She was on several herbal supplements that came in big tablets, so I had to crush them and put them in gelcaps. I still have a huge supply of #3 and #4, which are the ones I used most. Now I rarely need the #3s and use the #4s and #5s more.

Glad that my dogs are a lot easier... I could probably throw the pill on the floor and they would still happily eat it.
Yeah, dogs are easier - wrap it in bacon or cheese or something and get your fingers out of the way, quick! :joyful:

e given up on Cosequin as it didn't seem to do much for either kitty.
I don't know that it's helping Harvey's mobility, but the IM wanted me to give it for the inflammation in his intestines. I do think it helped Sasha's joint issues. She and Cinco both ate their food with it in and never batted an eye, but not Harvey.

His back legs are definitely stiff. He doesn't seem to be in pain, just has trouble moving them as well as he used to. I've been giving him Bupe when it seems to be a little worse, but I can't see that it's helping. I may talk to the vet about trying Adequan on him.

And thanks for reminding me I should probably do something about a cake for DM for this Wedesday.
You're welcome!

Yes, I did say cheesecake. It's in the oven. I think I messed up the crust, though. It's usually too dry and I end up adding butter to make it stick together, so this time I started with more butter, and it was too moist! I just can't win! Oh well, Mark is not picky at all. He even doesn't complain that I use low fat cream cheese and fat free sour cream. Before you say "ick!" I should tell you I've served it to people who don't know about the low/no fat ingredients, and they love it!! I don't like cheesecake, myself, so I can't comment, but I've never had anyone give me back a plate that wasn't practically licked clean.

It reputedly has no taste.
So I've been told, but Harvey disagrees.

What I do know is that he's been sneezing less since I upped his dose from 1/2 capsule a day to a full capsule a day. Could be a coincidence, or it could be the L-lysine. It won't hurt him, so I keep attempting to give it to him.

I have tried the pill popper and either I am doing it wrong or he is not liking it--we have it down pretty good with giving the pills but I am interested in the thing you got to fill them?? THAT would be awesome!!

Is cheesecake on your new diet, Tricia??...Might be a good thing you don't like it....leaves more for Mark anyway and I'm sure he doesn't mind that!

How was the dinner last night? Was the wine as good as you'd hoped it'd be after not having it for over a month?

Yo Harvey....what you doing out there in the weeds?...come on back this direction and maybe we'll go do some tandem surfing tonight!!

where do I get this gift from the cat Gods??:cat: what is it called??
I bought it from Capsuline.com a little over a year ago. Strangely, when I just now went to their website, they don't show them anymore, just gelcaps. o_O I just googled "capsule filling machine" and several options came up - more than I found when I was looking for one. You have to read the fine print to make sure it will do the #3, #4 and #5 sizes - some I saw only do #1 and larger.

Mine was pricey, like $160, I think, but to me it was well worth it. I did just find one online that looks way better than mine, for $129 (they have one for $59, but it only makes big capsules).

Mmm, wine! So glad you liked it. I'm sure the crust will be fine. More butter is usually better in my book. :) (BTW I'm thrilled you don't like cheese, it just means there will be more for me when I'm done with this diet!) ;) I'm glad you figured out what was keeping Harvey from eating, but frustrating that he can taste the so-called tasteless meds. At least the syringe worked.

Harvey is back in the lagoon! You know, Harv, if you didn't start out so high, you wouldn't have so far to go to get there!

Here's a cheaper one that fills #4's, available in the US.
I saw that one, Wendy, but Jayla said she uses #5s, so that one wouldn't work as well. I know, I've tried using one intended for larger capsules than I had. Messy.

@granadilla, you are welcome to all the cheese you can handle! I hope you have a glorious reunion with it!! EBID!

@mucacopatarica, if you ever come to the States, I will make you a cheesecake! ;) It's not fancy - a basic cheesecake with sour creme topping. That's what Mark likes, so that's what he gets.

All these medicines they claim are tasteless do work so well with cats. They must have a keener sense of taste than we do. Glad to see Harvey dipping his toes in the lagoon.
