Good morning!
Today Tačka ate almost enough breakfast. Appy it s not a good as it should be but better than yesterday.
I noticed that she is twitching more lately. She is having this little twitches for a year or two now(face) when she is relaxed-before sleep and sometimes after meal. I already asked vet about that and she didnt have the answer. I ve been reading about this a lot on internet and it is quite common condition in older cats. Often the cause is unknown. :(

Today I get 200 testrips. I found black market with teststrips in Slo. I know this is not right, but teststrips are so expensive. In Slo we still have public health care. People with diabetes gets supplies on perscription. Apparently some get much more supplies as they need and than they sell them. In this way i can get box of 50 teststrips (Bayer) for 14€ instead of 25€ (in farmacy). I feel like a such badass now :cool:

Not yellow anymore :( +2 303 But last few days she have higher +2 and than drops down till +5. I hope to see that today too.

The general rule of thumb is if the +2 is the same or lower expect an active cycle.

With George if he was the same he would usually drop but not very fast or very low.

If +2 was significantly lower then he would drop lower and faster
 
I like those blue numbers we had. I would wait a little on that dose because of yesterdays possible fur shot. What do you think? I should give her 4 allready?

In theory if you have a fur shot you start the count again. I wonder what some of the others think.
I would probably wait and see what she does today , and post up for dosecrease advice see what some of the more experienced folk think see if you get any thoughts before this evenings shot time, prefix your thread title with a question mark for more 'eyes'

The only reason I am questioning about the fur shot is that you could have taken her up after 6 cycles, (day before yesterday), she's been having lovely blue cycles, but with TR we look to slowly push those numbers into green, getting tighter glycaemic control. So I am wondering if it's OK to just go ahead, seeing as prior to the 'furshot' she has not got into green or if you need to hold for 6 cycles following that possible furshot??

I don't know the answer to that question, but I am sure someone more experienced will offer their views.

  • Hold the dose for 3 - 5 days (6 - 10 consecutive cycles) if nadirs are less than 200 before increasing the dose by 0.25 unit.
    • if your cat is new to numbers under 200, it is recommended to hold the dose for at least 8-10 cycles before increasing.
    • when your cat starts to see nadirs under 100, hold the dose for at least 10 cycles before increasing.
  • After 3 days (6 consecutive cycles)... if nadirs are greater than 200, but less than 300 increase the dose by 0.25 unit.
  • After 3 days (6 consecutive cycles)... if nadirs are greater than 300 increase the dose by 0.5 unit.

I was thinking about that too. I wanna see what will happen today and if she is able to clear the bounce till evening
I have another problem. On sunday I will be probably out for whole afternoon. So if I increase the dose it is possible i will be forced to skip or reduce shot (if she will be in green) but if I stay on that beautiful blue dose i will be able to leave her all afternoon without worries.
 
If I could find test strips without having to order them, I would do just like you're doing. Now I'm switching meters back and forth because sometimes my mum gives me free ones, since she's diabetic too. Cutting down costs is just clever, because it does become expensive in the long run. The strips, the LC food, the vets, supplies...

I'm glad Tacka has a better appetite today :)
 
How much does teststrips costs in Finland?

I do not dare to think how much I spent allready....and i have ordered new insuline few days ago. Another 60 and something € ...ehhhhh... beautiful sunny day in Slo. Do you have nice weather today Tiina, Carla, Gill?

The ones for my mum's meter are 20euros per 50, if I buy three packs (so 60euros alltogether). If just one, it's 23 euros per one. But I order for the other meter online and they are cheaper, but take longer to arrive. Insulin costs 70 euros per 5 pens of Lantus, and Hugo's insurance covers almost 50 euros, so that's cheap. But you're right, if you start counting the expenses...well don't! You'll just drive yourself nuts. I have been only doing this since Feb, but still it's a lot to deal with.

How much is rent for an apartment in Slo? It would be interesting to compare, Finland is so so expensive.

The weather has been terrible for the past week or so, with one odd sunny day. More rainy days are to come and next week is our big celebration, Midsummer. You don't celebrate it do you? I guess it's a Scandinavian or Nordic countries thing. People get drunk on festivals and most go to their summer cabins.

Depending on where you rent it. I live in Ljubljana this is capital city and it is beside seaside, the most expencive. But we are living in small apartment (35m2) in very old house, close to center and it is very very cheap for Ljubljna. 350€ (costs like electricity,water etc included, without TV-20€) Normal rent for 35m2 would be around 350-400€ (or around 10€ on a m2) without other costs.

Generally we have unusually bad weather this month too. Today is sunny but it will be rainy again tomorrow and on sunday. I think it will be rainy summer and not so hot as last year.

Concerning the rents, I think yours sound very affordable. In my city, which is the third largest of Finland, a 30m2 apartment costs 500-600 euros per month, water and electricity excluded. Two bedroom apartment around 700-800. In the capital city, Helsinki, a one bedroom apartment costs as much as a two bedroom one in my city.
 
Jp this is very expencive. But I think you have much bigger wages than we do. Average wage in Slo is only around 1000€.

I think it's good that you increased, have you gotten a new reading yet?

And you are correct about the wages in Finland, they are higher because of high living costs. Average wage is around 3000 euros if you work full time. But most can only dream of such a job, lots of unemployement and many young people graduate without a job.

We have same problems. Even I am currently jobless and i graduated allready. This is terrible!

+2 is 286. Its gonna be active cycle. But i increased just a little not 0.25 as I should be. We will see what will happen tonight.

It's the same thing with me, I graduated without a job from the university after studying for my dream job for 7 years. It sucks.

I think I would have given her another day to see if she was going to clear the bounce. She's been clearing them faster, but it was just a few days ago that she had a two day bounce and then cleared it. Since you already added a little to her dose, let's give this time to work and see what she does with it.

Yes, you are a badass! :joyful: Here in the US, lots of human diabetics sell their excess strips on Ebay (do you have access to Ebay there?). A lot of times you can get the best price there. They usually have a year or less left before their expiration date, but for us testaholics, that isn't a problem! ;) I often buy them that way. It's just smart to save where you can when dealing with this expensive disease! Insulin is so outrageous here, too.

You asked me about the tummy meds I give Harvey. He gets Ondansetron (Zofran) for nausea, and the appetite stimulant Cyproheptadine. They both are prescription meds in the US that you have to get from your vet, but they are human meds, too, so you can take the prescription to a regular pharmacy to be filled. You can give one without the other, but the combination seems to work best for him. You don't want to give an appetite stimulant if you think your cat is nauseated.

Yes we have. I have ordered like that allready but now i figured out that Slovenian "black market" is cheapest and the easiest way to get teststrips.

Thank you for information about meds. Today she was good girl and ate everything I gave her.
