I have found success with plain mashed pumpkin with nothing added. It is good for both constipation and diarrhoea. If you buy the canned pumpkin make sure it is the plain one, nothing added......don't get the pie one.
You can give a teaspoon a day safely. I found it firmed up diarrhoea very quickly... But of course ECID.:)
I make up a batch and freeze it in ice cube trays then bag it in the freezer.

You can add a pinch of plain psyllium husk for diarrhea/constipation. I give this to my Civvie who has colitis and it helps.

Also for just constipation you can give Miralax, 1/8 tsp daily, if no change after 3 days can increase to 1/4 tsp.

Slippery Elm Bark Powder. It is great for many things to do with the alimentary tract. I give it to Sheba because she often vomits early in the mornings when her tummy is empty....from an acid tummy. I give it to her about 4 am with a bit of food in the auto feeder.
As it coats the tummy it needs to be kept away from medications by about two hours so it doesn't affect the absorption of same.
Recipe:
1 teaspoon SEBPowder. Put into half cup cold water. Whisk with a fork til it dissolves, then put over a low heat, stirring all the time until it boils. Let it boil for about two minutes. It will thicken. Let it cool then put in a jar and refrigerate. Keeps for 7 days. Only takes about 5 minutes to do.
Buy the SEB powder from a health food shop or similar. Make sure it is pure SEB powder and has no additives.

All the above are excellent treatments. It all depends, though, to some degree, on what caused the diarrhea/constipation in the first place. You may need to eliminate the cause before the treatment can be completely successful.
