Cat ate dog kibble?

I caught Baby Cat eating the dog's kibble. He will probably end up not just really high but sick by the end of the day. The dog eats a special diet due to a liver shunt and his food has a laxative on it every meal.

I'm hoping he was just investigating it and not actually eating it. I leave for work this afternoon so won't be here to monitor him. He was already high based on not getting a shot last night.

We have the dog so he wont eat the cat food, but I have no idea how to get the cat to not eat the dog food.

I've already called the vet to ask about the lactulose, since it's a syrupy liquid.

He seemed fine yesterday, very high last night. He def ate the dog food, which is new for him to do, because he tried to do it again this morning.

LOL. But I've read where some do try it. I'm to chicken to, the smell is bad enough for me.

I've taste checked some of Rosa's meds before now. Only the ones that are generally prescribed for humans as often the flavoring in those isn't something cats will tolerate. I do draw the line at testing the cat food though!

Lactulose is quite high in sugar. We can't give it to diabetic humans because of the high sugar content.

It did taste like white Karo syrup.

Well, I put the dog food away and BC has now figured out how to find it. I just walked into the kitchen and he was on the counter, having some. He hasn't gotten on the counters in years. In better news, he's feeling well enough to jump up on the counters from the floor. Not bad for an old man.

Note that pure lactulose is not digestible and will not raise BG. However, commercial lactulose contains some digestible sugars:
Lactulose is a synthetic disaccharide in solution form for oral administration. Each 15 mL of Lactulose solution contains 10 g Lactulose (and less than 1.6 g galactose, less than 1.2 g lactose, and 1.2 g or less of other sugars). In addition, each 15 mL contains the following inactive ingredients: FD&C Blue No. 1, FD&C Yellow No. 6, sodium hydroxide (to adjust pH between 5 and 7) and water.
