Can someone please look at Maddie's spreadsheet? She hasn't had any insulin for a week or so but her AM number has been in the low 200's and then comes down into the 100's by evening. I haven't given her insulin because of this. not sure what to do. Thanks!

Hi Sarah!

Maudie's numbers look like she is going into remission - yay!

Is she still on Purina DM? If so, changing her to a low carb wet should get her down into normal numbers for her AMPS and PMPS.

Congrats!!!

Jen

I had switched her to FF classics awhile ago but then her numbers started going back up so i switched her back to DM and then started coming down. last week I started mixing DM and FF classics chicken flavor.

what numbers are considered remission? I wanted to test one of my other 4 cats to see what they are but none of them will let me near their ears haha

I just took a look at your old messages to get up to speed. Are you using U-100 syringes or U-40?

My Tucker is stuck on insulin because he gets daily steroids, but I have him on really low carb food and he gets micro dosing using the U-100 syringes. If it wasn't for the steroids I think he would be off insulin completely!

He is getting 0.3 units AM and PM.

So, you could try two things - get her off the DM and on low carb completely and see what happens. On the right food she may not need insulin.
Or, you can switch to U-100 and use micro doses - instead of a U-40 syringe going by 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 units you would go by 0.2 or even 0.1 if needed. There is a conversion file somewhere on this site :)

I need to check but I believe less than 100 for 14 consecutive days equals remission.

Ok thanks! I do use u-40. I'll have to see about where I can get u-100s. I'll call my vet tomorrow.

With the U-40 syringes, you might try 0.25 units and give it a few days to settle down.

If you are changing her diet to all low carb food monitor her glucose levels closely! I do suspect an all low carb diet (meaning no DM) will put her in remission (HINT HINT)!!

I use ADW for my testing supplies and syringes. ADWdiabetes.com.

Yep, her numbers are nice! Normal is around 40-120 off insulin I believe. So she's just a bit above where we'd want to see her for an OTJ trial. I agree with Jen. If you can get her off the DM and onto a low carb diet only, I really think that might help push her over the edge. :)

I'm gonna try but last time I took her completely off DM and use ff classics it went up but this time around I'm only doing the chicken feast. I saw it was lower than some of the others but right now I still have 5 cans of DM left so I mix them

Probably a good idea to mix them. That way, you won't get tummy upset. Hopefully when she gets completely switched over, it won't cause the numbers to go up. If it does, we'll figure something out. :)

Me too! She tends to be good for a couple weeks though and then she vets high again so hopefully we stay low this time! She's a difficult girl

Good plan! I agree with mixing. I had a tough time getting Tucker off Wellness Core (chicken allergy) and mixed a little in each day to minimize any bowel upset.

You go girl! I'm totally jealous that you have remission in the future!!!
