So here we are, already June and time to pay the rent :( At least it's sunny here on the east coast :)

I did my morning test on Small Kitty and I had lots expectations on the results.

It sounds that the low results from the last night test were the exception. With the
same meter, no change in code, same batch of strips, we're back to typical results.

Testing solution gave 8.7 (the one that comes with AT2 meter).
and Big Brother 4.9

Does this sounds like within range ?

I'm pretty sure it's within range. Why the result was so low yesterday I don't know.

The problem I encountered with human meters is that they require lot's of blood (.05).
The only one that was ok was the one made by Abott but compared with an AT2 meter
the results could not be trusted. I'll find the table I made with side by side result, it
was just random numbers as the AT2 showed a curve.

Anyhow, if BB is at 4.9 I'm pretty sure he is.

Now time to go to the office, have a good 1rst of June !

SK has shown himself to be a bouncy kitty. It is possible that he went lower last night which would explain the higher number this morning...the dreaded bounce.

The number you got from BB sounds good. It is right in the normal range for a kitty using the AT2 meter.

I would plan on doing another curve this weekend and see how the numbers are through accycle. Hopefully SK won't be boumcing on the weekend and you can get a good curve done.

Good Morning Sebastien~ it does look like SK is doing the bounce today after that nice 268 at +3 and he most likely went lower. There is an expression here that kitties will stop bouncing when they do.

A curve again this weekend is a good idea to see if more insulin is required.

Nice that you noticed it's a beautiful day today. Sometimes this sugar dance is so distracting from everything else that is happening around us. Your are doing a great job. :bighug:

I think I know what happened yesterday with my ''false readings''. I found no proof, but I believe that
when you use a strip fresh out of the vial it's the first time oxygen is in contact with it. It might be that there
is some time before the chemicals in the strips become ''stable'', then results become ''consistent''.

Consistent the Abott meter was not for Small Kitty. This is my first ever glucose curve sent to my vet.
Done with AT2 with AT2 strip and FSL with FSL strips :

You see why I lost faith in human meter. When I went to the vet office he
mande a 250$ blood test and ended up averaging 23.1.

Like I said before, there might be good human meter but the blood quantity required
made me lose strips at an amazing rate. Small Kitty doesn't have bloody ears, even
tiny .03 in size are hard to get.

Anyhow, I have a new batch of FL strips and in 2-3 weeks another 40$ batch will arrive
(from India).

I think results on my SS can be trusted.

Strips are good as soon as the container is open. Actually strips should not be exposed to the air for any long periods of time because a higher humidity can affect the test results. They need to be kept in the tightly closed container they came in.

Pet meters read higher than human meters, so the comparisons between meters does not mean the FS Lite meter was wrong..it just reads lower.

Let's see how SK does in the next few days and then you can get a curve on the weekend. :)

Start to wonder when Small Kitty will come out of this bounce, if bounce at all.

Drugstore finally decided not to sell insulin without prescription if it's for animal (law has specific rules in regards of insulin for animal).

I got a prescription from the vet but then it's the drug store that was closed. Will take
a look at this tomorrow. Would be nice if a fresh insulin vial was the only
thing missing to get things better...

*BTW, I think I received my feeders, will need the right food to set it up and
hopefully in a not too complex way.

I'm liking this PMPS! Slowly surely wins the race. If you can get the pens, that is the way to go. Two reasons: 1. you can use every last drop where as the vials are hard to draw up insulin as they get really low. 2. You have a fresher pen to use sooner than you can finish a bottle of insulin.

If I can figure out how to set up the auto feeder, you can as I am so not tech savvy.

We are making some steps in the right direction! :);):cat::bighug:

Did you try a second pharmacy for the insulin, or is this a new law in Quebec? Everywhere else in Canada we get insulin over the counter. Cartridges are what you want. The 5 pack of cartridges is slightly cheaper than the pens which just have a lot of wasted bits since we don't used the pens the way humans do. The cartridge is like a pen refill.

Time to lose this bounce SK.

Setting timer an so on is not going to be a big deal, thing is how to split portions that
will not get Small Kitty and Big Brother mad of having to wake-up for a tiny bit of food but at the same time
not overfeed them

Yes I will use cartridge. Jean Coutue the big drug store chain said no right away. This ''smaller'' pharmacy
initially said it was fine but the girl there must have dig in the law books for this little, almost unreadable,
comments that said ok to sell to all human with diabetes mentioned somewhere in their file. Otherwise,
if it's for animal caretaker you're a drug dealer.

If I had knew that before I would have continue drinking my 2 liters of Coke every week-end + 3 cookies packs a week.

:(

I think I am using the term pen and cartridge interchangeable. The pens are called SoloStar pens but instead of using the needles that humans use on that pen, I draw up the insulin with a U100 syringe to the dose being used.

That is my shoot times too. I will come up with a feed schedule for you. It would be best if you could wait till the week end to condition them to the auto feeder. I will talk more about that tomorrow, got to make dinner for everyone.

Actually, I would like @Tuxedo Mom ,@Chris & China @Wendy&Neko to see what y'all think for snack time. Looking at the SS, nadir it is all over the place with times.

I would find that very hard to determine. As you said SK's nadir is all over the place or not really noticeable. On a couple of curves it would "appear" that the nadir is around +5, but then other times he appears to be lower at PMPS. I really don't see a pattern at this point.

Sebastian what do you leave out for SK (and BB) when you go to work during the day and when you go to bed at night?

We can buy the pens here too, but the cartridge is just a piece of what is in the pen so less waste. They are used the same way. The Syringe and Insulin info sticky has pictures of both.
