Recently we've had a few days of barely eating but yesterday we had a series of improvements - Radar received a B12 shot and subQ fluids. I got an rx for Ondansetron which I have not yet filled but will get it this morning.

Radar got me up at 5 am to tell me about how hungry he was, so of course I jumped up and gave him food. Two hours later he ate his breakfast with no problem and since it's been close to 2 hours he's now come back asking me for food again. So apparently we are back on track, at least for the moment.

And his amps number is looking good too. :cat::)

So glad to hear that Radar is eating normally again. I am sure that is a relief to you. It is very upsetting when our kitties are not eating. Hope Radar gives you some good numbers today :bighug:

+6 was 144

Nice to see those blues later in the cycle

I have the Ondansetron and would like some advice about when is the best time - if there is such a thing- to give it. With food or without? does it matter where we are in the cycle? Do you give it every day? twice a day? or just when he displays the symptoms of nausea? @Tricia Cinco(GA) & Harvey @rhiannon and shadow (GA) any thoughts?

Today he's been eating much more normally which is such a relief at our house.
Now that he's eating better, I'm wondering about when it might be safe for him to increase the dose as I do think he needs a little more juice... Shall I wait until morning to give him some more time to eat normally and get a dose or two of the Ondansetron before I do anything about the dose?

Hi Jan. I used Ond for Marshmallow. I gave it twice a day, about half an hour before food so it has time to kick in before breakfast and dinner. I gave it to her regularly for IBD/lymphoma. I don't know if you'll need to do it regularly though. Maybe start with once a day and see if he needs it at dinner time or if he'll eat without it. And after he's back to eating normally, see if he can do without it or if the nausea comes back. It really does work. Paws crossed you won't need it for long. I don't know about the juice but I'd guess you could increase tomorrow now that you have the Ond in your arsenal. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I gave it 30 minutes before food too.....
and when needed , I gave appy stimulant right before the food so it would kick in if she turned away from her food.

You just learn as you go and see how he responds. And start tuning in , fine tuning , that is for his subtle signs.

I'm so glad he was eating a bit better today! Even if the little squirt did wake you up!

Yes, I think you've got room to increase his dose. No greens in there since you went to 2.75u, although he's gotten close. He's had 16 cycles at the 2.75u so if he was going to get any significant green, I think you'd have seen it by now.

Sometimes when you tag people in a row, the tags don't seem to always go through. I'd try putting "and" in between. I don't have any experience with Ondansetron. Tricia does, and so does Elise.

Thank you so much for peeking at our ss. Your experience with Lantus is so valuable and appreciated. :) I will hold off for the moment as I'm just not sure how the ondansetron fits in this picture so he's eating and safe before I increase the dose. I also don't want to lose any ground we've gained with Mr Liver who "knows" now that blues are ok for the most part.

sounds like a plan! It's always good to be secure that a kitty will eat, isn't it?! With the acro, punkin was a life member of the CPC (Clean Plate Club) - so when he didn't want to eat, it was a huge concern! I'm so glad that Radar is eating better.

And you're very welcome. I'm just passing it on, just like others helped me when I was learning.:)

What a wonderful community of learning we've all built here together. I'm grateful every day that I found FDMB and all the kind and helpful people who pay their knowledge and experience forward every chance they get. :woot:

Hi Jan. I'm glad you got the ondansetron. I give it morning and night. When I found the right dose for Max he rarely needed an appy stimulant. It takes 30-45 minutes to work and I found it took a couple of days sometimes to get going. How much were you told to give? I started with 1 mg but found Max needed 2mg each dose. For really bad nausea I was told he could get 3-4 mg. so if 1 mg doesn't work more might be needed.

BTW since you haven't gotten it yet, if you use Good RX you will find the best price. For example CVS is usually way too high. I have bought it from Costco mostly. I hope it works.

Sorry, I didn't see your earlier tag. And I don't have experience with Ondo yet, though it may be part of my future.

I too think you have room for that increase. I have recently found that Neko's lack of appy isn't impacting her numbers much.

I did use Good RX at your suggestion and found the best price in my area, much to my delight. I was given 4mg tablets and was told to give 2-4 mg as needed with repeating after 8-24 hours. Your experience is so valuable to us as we try to help our little one eat more consistently. Thanks for sharing. :bighug:

I'm so glad your vet is giving the correct dose! Fingers and paws crossed that it works as well for Radar as it does for Max!

We will find out in about 30 minutes if it's working because I just gave him his first dose. This morning instead of waking me up because he was hungry I awoke to the unmistakeable sounds of a cat who has found tape to lick. He had gotten an empty bag from the trash which had tape so it could be opened and closed for freshness. He was licking the adhesive with great intensity holding the bag down with one paw. This is not a very subtle sign of nausea for my newly emerging list of things to watch for. Lol
