I didn't post for a couple days because my dizziness is made worse by focusing my eyes and filling the syringe has been all the focusing I can do.

I need help re Eleanor. Her diarrhea got so bad I started her on Metronidazole. I don't know if her BG is higher because of the Metronidazole. This is a new bottle from the compounding pharmacy that is supposed to not have sweetener in it. She could be higher because she is sick.

I also reduced on the delay, even though I guess I'm not supposed to, because I looked back over my past 4 years of records on her and saw that I have done that in the past and it worked to keep her on a set schedule. And did not send her BG skyrocketing.
However, now I have no idea what to do, I think I should bring the dose back up. But I seem to be unable to think.

I also don't know if I should take her to the vet. I talked to him and he said to bring her in if I think I should. I have no money, I can use my utility bill money, but I know the vet will give her a penicillin shot and prescribe oral Orbax just because I'm there, I don't know if she needs it and the Orbax with the Metronidazole will for sure start her vomiting again. I know no one can advise me on that.

If this is pancreatitis or IBD an antibiotic won't help. When were her last labs? How is her appetite? Does she seem to be in pain or nauseous? I'm not sure why an antibiotic would be given and hate to see that given when you are strapped for cash. I'm sorry you are facing this and don't know how to advise you but it sounds like your vet won't get to the cause. Maybe give the metronidazole a chance to work?

Metronidazole is an antibiotic so dumping another one on top would not make any sense. It can come with some nasty side effects...has she taken it before? Have you ever tried adding Slippery Elm Bark to her food for maintenance? With her dose I think it's your call. If she starts throwing pinks often I'd go back to the 3.25 but you have to be comfortable. Sending lots of vines and prayers your way :bighug::bighug:

I agree with Julie. I think Eleanor's numbers were looking better on more insulin.

Have there been any changes in Eleanor's diet? Have you tried adding FortiFlora or pumpkin or baby food squash to her food to help with the diarrhea? There are other, stronger probiotics (e.g., ReNew Ultimate) than FortiFlora if you want to give it a try.

One other consideration is that some cats develop food allergies out of the blue. Fish and beef are common allergens. You could also try a novel protein diet (e.g., rabbit, venison) and see if that helps.

BTW...today is the 25th :) What are her numbers today?

Can you see if DCIN will pay for a vet visit for her and perhaps take her to someone other than Dr. T? I really think she needs to be seen. She could become really dehydrated with the diarrhea. If you are having to assist feed her and aren't getting enough calories in her, she is at risk for fatty liver disease.

I believe I have suggested S. boulardi to you but it made her sick? I'm not sure why it would but if it does, there is something else going on with her.

I don't want to suggest a dose increase until I see what she's doing today.

Vines for you both...and many prayers.

I'm worrying about the upcoming holiday if I don't take her in to see the vet now..
She was in pain when this episode started, I gave her Bupranorphine.
Her last labs were the end of March, they were good..

She has had Metronidazole many times. It makes her throw up after a few
days.
She won't eat her food if it has SEB in it, I have to give her the SEB in a syringe. Can you tell me how far to space it from meds?
She won

I realise that today is the 25th. Because of the shot delays, instead of her shot time being 3 am/3 pm they are now 11 am/11 pm. That was the 24th PM shot info I posted.

I have to give Eleanor her shot now, PS is 293.
She has to have a snack every 3 hours to keep her from throwing up, she ate her +9 snack on her own and is dancing around now waiting for food.
Her temperature was 101.2 this morning. Only one poop, super soft with a piece of normal. No vomit.

That's a great update Julie! Hopefully she's turning herself around now :)
