Hi everyone, we went to the vets office on Friday to drop off the urine sample, I wanted to talk to the vet or a tec to show me how to use the meter and we had more questions about his blood work. His Monocyte Count was over 700 and no one told us why, but they said they got in a lot of emergencies so we left a message for the vet to call us and of course he didn't call us back so we called sunday to find out the results of the urinalyses the lady vet who we never spoke to said he has a UTI and needed Clavamox, I told her he can't take that, the time he took it he kept throwing up. I ask for amoxicillin she said she didn't have the 50mg tabs they would have to be ordered then she said she had to go because of a emergency so I called 1800 pet meds and they had the 50mg pills, they asked what dose did I want so I told them what I thought, 50 mg twice a day and they sent the request to the vet. Since there was a emergency I am worried she just signed off on it and is using the dose I picked. I called the vet back and the man vet said he usually does 100mg twice a day, so I told him the other vet signed off on 50mg twice a day and we received the pills in the mail today . He said that was ok too. Perkins weights about 15 and a half pound does this dose sound right? We just want Perkins to be ok. Thanks

My cat Jason was treated for an unknown infection back in December with Amoxicillin (the ER vet initially wanted to do Doxycycline, but he can't tolerate that) and he was on 100mg twice a day for 10 days. Jason weighs around 11.5 pounds. 50mg twice a day may still be in the acceptable dose range though - Clavamox (which contains 50mg of Amoxicillin per ml) is typically dosed at 1 ml twice a day. If you're concerned about it, I would suggest calling your vet back and confirming again what dose you should give.

Typical amoxicillin dosage is 5 to 10 mg per pound every 12 to 24 hours. However, the actual dosage for your cat will be best decided by your veterinarian after proper diagnosis.

Plumb's Vet Drug handbook (fifth edition) says:
- Gram negative bacteria infection 10-20 mg/kg orally twice daily
- Gram positive infection 20-30 mg/kg orally twice daily
- Susceptible UTI 20 mg/kg orally twice or three times daily

I seen this coming a mile away, we gave perking the Biomox amoxicillin and he got diarrhea after the second does. I shouldn't have given him the Biomox because it's made for dogs. We are asking the vet for zeniquin. He took that in the past with no problem.

Amoxicillin is also used for cats. t just seems that the manufacturer of Biomox never tested it on cats and thus they can't legally market it for cats.
One common side effect of most oral antibiotics is diarrhea. Thus, I would have expected diarrhea even if a cat-approved amoxicillin was used.
I have had good luck with Baytril, which is in the same class of antibiotics, quinolone, as Zeniquin
