My kitty Mr. Black has been OTJ for 1-1/2 weeks, and as of 2 plus weeks ago has been fed 100% FF Classic canned, with bonito flakes and freeze-dried treats. He's doing great, but his stools are VERY black, otherwise normal. It looks really weird and scary to me! My other cat Teddy (non-diabetic) has also been converted to this diet and his stool is black too but a little lighter black. Anybody know what's going on??

The same thing happened to all my cats when they were on Special Kitty! I did what Mogs has suggested you do; I took samples to the vet for analysis and, thankfully, everything was okay. those black poos were freaky and scary, though! switched them over to FF and they still have blackish poos, but not quite as dark black.

Fritz had black stools for almost 2 months after starting Prozinc. Not sure if that caused it. I did take a stool sample and took him of it into the vet and because he wasn't showing any clinical signs of a GI bleed we choose to just wait and see and finally his are leaning towards normal. Please post if you take him to the vet and what the vet says. I feed him homemade raw organic hormone antibiotic free chicken. Vet thought possibly it could be the fresh liver I add to the recipe. But if others are not feeding raw it could be the FF or insulin. Food for thought.....

I did feed them both FF chicken with liver yesterday. Will test this by feeding only FF chicken, turkey or beef, and no liver till the next stool.

With Fritz it started right after starting insulin. Still a mystery! Odd thing is right after I posted others started posting that their kitties were too.

Well, they are still black, and from the other kitty as well. Not quite convinced yet that I should take a sample from both cats to the vet for testing, but I will of course continue to keep a close eye out for any color changes and let everyone know.
