Ice cream is a rarity in our home. We get it maybe three times a year from the grocery store. It was one of Shaak's treats too. She would climb up on top of my chest and lick a spoonful of ice cream off of my spoon. So this is the first time we have had ice cream since Shaak was diagnosed. She followed my spoon and bowl everywhere. Climbed up with two of her paws and was even trying to lick it as I put it in my mouth. I did not relent, she got no ice cream, but I feel sorry for her. Is there any sweet treat that anyone knows of that Shaak would be able to eat. Keep in mind she is OTJ and I don't want to see her have to have insulin again from me making a terrible error in judgement on what to feed her.

Don't know how much lactose might be in ordinary natural yoghurt. Might be worth looking into as a little treat for Shaak - maybe a couple of fingertips' worth when you break out the ice cream? Other members may be better able to guide you as to its suitability for a diabetic.

My cat really likes goats milk....
Bertie currently gets a heaped teaspoonful of goat's cream every morning (to try to get more calories into him). He loves it, and it seems to have no impact on his blood glucose at all.

As I understand it cats can't taste 'sweet', so maybe it's the creaminess of the ice cream that Shak Ti likes, and that desire could be fulfilled without sugar, Cathie @Cathie and Shaak Ti...?

As Mogs suggested, plain yogurt might be another option...? (And it has the added plus of 'good bacteria'....)

Could you try a teensy weensy bit of something and then test Shaak Ti's blood glucose to check the effect...?
