Hi my cat Sooty is on caninsulin and this last week she has been suffering from head tremors and muscle twitching. Her blood sugars were low and the vet advised to stop insulin for a week. Her last insulin was yesterday (Friday morning) and I gave 2 units ( half her normal dose). I expected the tremors to disappear quickly but she is still the same this morning. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm beginning to wonder if something else is going on? Apart from the tremors, she is lively and responsive. I only notice the tremors at rest. Any help or advice greatly appreciated! Julie and Sooty

Hi Julie and Sooty

My cat was on caninsulin but I didn't notice any tremors or twitching related to it.

I'm no expert here and hopefully someone who is will get back to you soon but it seems odd to have gone from no insulin to 2 units? Was her blood glucose high again? Xx

Hi thanks for replying. We've been monitoring her all week. Apart from a one off episode last Monday night, the tremors/twitching have been since Thursday night. The vet saw her Friday morning and that's when her blood sugars were low and that's when insulin was stopped. I just presumed that the tremors would stop really quickly. Since I posted first, she seems better again. She has been in the garden all morning rolling around x

Oh I see so she is off insulin for a week now from Friday, that makes sense!

Are you testing her at home? If so are her numbers still low?

From what I've read it can take some insulins a while to leave the system but I don't think that's the case for caninsulin and it goes really quickly. Maybe it's just her body adjusting to producing enough insulin itself, I guess it just a wait and see situation.

It sounds like she's feeling okay in herself and I'm glad to hear that. Hope it continues, keep us posted xx

Is it just Sooty's face? A few of us were talking about this with our kitties earlier this week. My 15yr old girl does it. check out this thread, I put a video clip of my girl doing it on there, see if its similar.

We sort of came to the concensus its just an "old" kitty quirk. My girl has never had any ill effects from it, and the vet cant find anything that would be causing it.
