i hope i'm not asking too many questions! Seems like i never run out.

We had a really restless night last night and i'd love to know if anyone else's cat is/was restless during periods of hyperglycemia. We'll have nights like last night fairly regularly. Neither of us get much sleep. Mr B is fidgety, gets on the bed, of the bed, on the bed, off the bed, cant settle down, goes in the other room, comes back in the bedroom, repeat. Looms over my head with an unsettled expression, and all i want to do is help him but we just have to hang on another week or so with this recent lantus increase. I did a BG test at midnight to see if it was off the charts, but it was 285. Clearly hyper, but not the highest i've seen with him, and lately the upper 200's has been the closest we've gotten to normal.

Anyways, is this a hyperglycemic symptom, please? Seems like it might be. I sort of think of it as a child who has had waaaay too much candy and cant settle down.

Just for the record, i'm noticing he's not napping/resting well so far today either. Will be doing a glucose curve.

There is no limit to the number of questions you can ask. Just keep 'em coming. We like questions! :D

Without seeing some data (history of BG readings in relation to when this behaviour occurs) all we can do is speculate. I can tell you that my cat gtes antsy for food if her BG is high, if her BG drops to better but not great numbers lower than her body is used to and if she gets too low. If she gets really low, she gets downright obnoxious. Cats quite often have lower BG numbers during the night cycle so it's possible Mr. B's readings are going much lower than you are aware of during the night. The only way to figure that out is to get some mid cycle night BG tests especially when the behaviour actually occurs. That can be a pain but it can be very telling.

Any of these scenarios is possible with Mr. B. We have a spreadsheet we use to track our test readings which can be an invaluable tool when it comes to figuring out mysteries such as yours as well as helping make dosing decisions, save money on vet visit etc. If you would like to set up a spreadsheet, here are the instructions. Having this data available for folks to see here, will allow us to give you more specific answers or opinions. If you decide to use the spreadsheet and have any problems setting it up, just holler. Someone here can set it up for you and then return ownership to you.
 
I wouldnt worry about too many questions, everyone here cares about all the kitties and wants to make sure us newbies have the info we need :) Plus, when you have a question its usually something someone else wants to know but hasnt asked yet, so your helping someone else too! :D I have had this same thing with Cooter, it gets worse the higher he goes until hes at a certain point then he gets lethargic. i know he has to feel crappy when his BG's high, I know I would. Hope you and Mr. B can get some rest :bighug:

I don't think there are enough questions in the world; they help everyone to learn! :) The only daft question is the one that goes unasked.

I have a particular interest in learning more about clinical signs and behaviours of cats with health problems. Cats can't use our language but that doesn't mean we can't learn to 'listen' to them better. The more sharing there is of 'odd' behaviours between us mere humans the better we will be able to help each other learn feline 'vocabulary'. That can only be a good thing since it will enable us to find ways to better help our beloved furry childer.

Thank you. Bloodwork 8 days ago. Good thyroid levels. i hope it isnt pancreatitis pain ☹️. Appetite is excellent.

Does the bup work well for smokey? We had tried it months ago in case mr b was in pain but all it did was make him stoned and still restless.
 
Smokey appetite was always pretty good even with pancreatitis. He just started leaving some in his dish and had 3 vomits of brown liquid. He also walked around aimlessly and cried and seemed lost. He acted like he didn't know what to do. I now know that was pain and he acted that way because he couldn't get comfortable. Much like his mom here, when I hurt I can't get comfortable.

He never stoned or high when he got the bupre even when it was 3 times a day. He now gets it once every other day. It will stay this way for the foreseeable future.
 
Oh that sounds awful. So hard to witness our little buddies in pain. We've had no vomiting, no crying at night. I'm watching him closely.

Glad to hear the bup helps smokey.
 
It can take a bit of fiddling to get a bupe dose right. With Saoirse a little tends to go quite a way. She was given an Rx for 0.2ml Vetergesic q8 on Friday. She was due the first 0.2ml dose at 10:30pm Friday night but madam was still buzzing from the post-dental injected dose at stupid o'clock in the morning so she didn't get her next dose till nearly lunchtime on Saturday.
