Hello again!

Yesterday's thread.

Carter's doing good, minus a little hot spot on his belly I'm treating with Vetericyn. I shaved the area to give it some breathing room and I haven't caught him trying to lick it, so hopefully he continues to like it air out, dry and heal up.

Two things I've noticed though:

1. Over the past few days, Carter has been increasingly "frisky" if you will. He is constantly mounting my other cat (the passive, younger one) and even though he's done it in the past (and my older cat does too) poor Odin lol it's been increasing lately. I don't know if anyone has experienced this with their diabetic? I doubt it has anything to do with the insulin itself, he's all of a sudden being more dominant, which also brings us to...

2. This week as well, Carter has become increasingly protective of the back area of the house. I have a dog gate set up (with a cat door) that separates the living room, kitchen, dining from the back bedrooms and bathrooms so when we're not home, Kya (my dog) doesn't go eat out of the litterbox or eat their small cat toys or generally harass them to play. However, the past few days that she's casually walked up to it, Carter will chase her away, even continuing to crouch down low to the ground, tail poofed up, and stalk her around the house just to hit. Like he's going out of his way to try to hurt her and I've had to break it up several times now. I don't think he's using claws because she doesn't yelp, she does cowards down in confusion. I feel bad for her because she loves Carter, he was the only cat that let her get close, they would kiss each other and Kya knows she can't get that close to any of the other boys. I think her feelings are genuinely hurt. But when we're all in the living room, Carter doesn't care if she comes up to him, or vise versus, it's just when he's behind that gate. I'm wondering if he's become protective of that area since that's where he eats, gets treats, gets medicated etc. Just thought it is weird and I hope he gets past it.

In other news, my automatic feeders and pet fountain arrive today and I'm stoked! Setting up their feedings one time a day versus 4-5x a day will take away one less task and make my day to day life easier.

Hope everyone has good numbers today!

AMPS 419 so we're already heading down!

It sounds to me like Carter might be feeling a little better since he's feisty. Hope so.

Yeah he has defnitely been full of energy. Even on the Vetsulin his overall demeaner improved but the BG did not. Lantus seems like it is keeping him nice and steady as he decends into lower numbers.

Hope that you see the lower numbers for Carter in the next few days!

Me too! As per the TR rules and advise of others I'm seeing what his Nadir is tomorrow during the AM cycle and if it's still above 300 I will post for confirmation about upping the dose .50 or if it's below 300 upping .25 (I think that's what is says, I'll have to double check.)

No doubt that others here will be able to guide you on that. I want to make sure that someone told you to add the "?" symbol in your thread title when needing advice. When you start or add to a thread, the symbols are to the left of the area that you type your message in. That will get more attention to the fact that you need an answer or help with something.

You wouldn't go up until the morning of 4/22 at the earliest

Since his first shot of Lantus was 4/19 AM, you'd need to wait for at least 6 full cycles before considering increasing....that makes it at least 4/22's morning shot

By the way...on your spreadsheet, you have 4/19 twice ...yesterday and today ;)

Oh okay I understand! So can I post for advise tomorrow night FOR 4/22 morning shot so I don't have to wait/stall in the AM?

Oh whoops haha thanks for catching that!

+3 @ 378

Side-note, Carter's fur is SO SOFT since the diet change. I mean it wasn't as bad as when we first got him, he was so overweight he could barely clean himself, but now it's so healthy looking and I am so pleased!

Isn't it wonderful what a species appropriate diet can do?? China's fur is so soft.....like a bunny!!

So can I post for advise tomorrow night FOR 4/22 morning shot so I don't have to wait/stall in the AM?

Yes, you can, but it won't necessarily mean you won't have to stall....the decision to stall or not is made when you actually get the PS....if it's below 150, you should stall (for now)....as you learn more about how Carter responds to food and the lantus, that number gradually comes down until you're shooting lower and lower numbers

But if his Nadir tomorrow is not below 300 during the AM cycle, would it be better to ask dosing advise the night before to get the "ok" to increase by 4/22 AM? Just so I don't have to wait for someone to post. Now if his PS is a lot lower then obviously I will be hesitant and stall/post but if his numbers are in the pink, both PS and the previous day's Nadir, it would be fine to increase by .5 if it's above 300? or .25 if his Nadir tomorrow is below 300?

I guess this is kind of redundant since I basically asking you right now what I am planning to ask tomorrow night lol

Yes, of course you can ask tomorrow night about possibly increasing on 4/22.....I was just saying that the decision to stall depends only on the PS

You had said "So can I post for advise tomorrow night FOR 4/22 morning shot so I don't have to wait/stall in the AM?"......Yes...we could tell you to increase tomorrow night, but until you actually test on 4/22, there's no way we'd know about the "stalling" part

Example....Carter doesn't drop below 300 by tomorrow night so we suggest increasing by .5 unit on 4/22.....but surprise!! His AMPS is 145!....so even though we'd just advised you to increase, you'd still want to "stall", don't feed and retest in 20-30 minutes and post for help

Gotcha. I think when I said stall I really meant to say wait in regards to waiting around for someone to answer a question I could ask the night before. :P But we shall see what tomorrow brings!

And there's that pink Pre-shot!!

Going in the right direction, Carter!! Are we going to see yellow tonight??

Maybe! We'll see before bed in a few hours.

He's sliding down so evenly I'm so impressed with Lantus even though he's not in the blues or greens in nice to see a gentle slide. Even if he does need an increase by 4/22 AM I think he's going at a nice pace for the first few days!

You got that right...we can gradually increase the dose to get his nadir where we want it.....if it were me, I know I'd feel better without all the fast dives and bounces

+3.5 @ 520 :(

And I know I didn't give a fur-shot, so I'm a little confused... but I know Lantus can not start fully taking affect until the +2-+3 mark, is that correct?
