meter battery

They should more than a year based on my experience unless the meter is defective. I had one meter that depleted the battery in less than a month, The manufacturer replaced it.

Many meter batteries are based on how many tests are done. The 2 I use, Freestyle Lite and Alpha Trak 2 are good for 1000 tests. So the more tests that are done the quicker the battery wears down. You can look up your brand on the manufacturer website.

I replaced my Alpha Trak battery in about 1 month from starting it. I wouldn't take a chance on a wonky reading if you can afford to replace it. Mine was not that expensive.

I actually have the spare batteries but because of my anxiety disorders I'm actually afraid to put a new battery in for fear of ... yep, you guessed ... getting wonky readings. (I have an intense fear of things changing.)

I don't think you are alone in fearing change Mogs. Many many people do as well.

The battery in my Alphatrak has been on the go since August 2014. (Anti-jinx against it going wonky tonight.)

What warning signs did you get that it was failing, Lucy?

It has a little battery symbol at the top of the read-out screen that flashes when the battery is low but, frankly, I find it rather difficult to see. When my meter started to operate erratically/sporatically I looked for the little symbol and, yep, there it was, lol.
