Doodles 4/12 Doodles had a dosecrease last night so today I'm prepared for NDW. I did get up at PM+8 and he was 321 so he really zoomed up in 4 hours. Since he was so high this morning I gave R @ AMPS instead of waiting until +2. He seems to be feeling fine this morning:)

I'll be calling a few vets today to see if someone is willing to write a script for Levemir. In the meantime I'm looking into a few options for alternative purchasing.

Karen can you purchase from Canada? I'm not sure about all of Canada but I know I have been able to get insulin without a prescription.

YAY for feeling fine :cat::cat::cat:!! Work that juice, Doodles!! Good luck with the vet hunt...never ever a fun process. I can't believe you can't get your current vet to prescribe Lev....but I guess that alone is enough of a red flag since they don't realize that Lev is a great insulin for kitties.

Have a great day, Karen :bighug::bighug::bighug:!

I hate it when vets aren't willing to try new things that will benefit all their patients. My vet hasn't used lev with cats but when we discussed it he would have tried it if I wanted. The only thing he is hesitant about is antibiotics which my friends on yahoo think he needs. I'm not so sure so I don't push it. Good luck in your search. Finding a vet you can trust is so hard. I need one for weekends and nights but don't have one in mind.:bighug:

I hope the increase brings better numbers.

I guess I can understand a vet not wanting to write a script for something he's ignorant about. But I can't understand a vet who won't then learn something new and go with your request. That's the stinky part. Good luck with your "alternative" methods...

Doodles. So glad you're feeling good. Numbers, schnumers. (But I do believe the R team will get you where you need to be...yes, I do.)

I have an appt. Monday with a vet who comes to the house. During the conversation they sounded leery about Levemir, brought up using human meter is not reliable and poking your cat too much is not quality of life. Starting to think this hunt for Levemir is just more headache than I need.

Good choice to give the R at AMPS. I want to talk to Sandy, at least, about maybe trying to give a little more R for these higher numbers. I know he's coming down but the antibodies are keeping him from staying down and letting the Lantus do its job. For now, keep on keeping on because it sometimes takes time to make contact.

When he comes up and you are thinking of another dose of R, I wonder if trying to shoot 2.5u might help instead of backing down too much?

Reached out to 2 new vets and no one has experience with Levemir and won't prescribe it. I have sent back a note asking to work with us to one of them and said I'd sign a waiver and this would give her the opportunity to GET experience with Levemir. This is my last shot and then either I get it on Craigs List or just stay with Lantus. His old vet won't either because all his records went to the new IM vet. Luckily we're seeing progress on Lantus so might just let it go.

I like those lower yellows. NDW be gone, show use what the new dose can do!

Maybe post on Health, asking for any Lev users in the Phx area? Gotta be a vet out there somewhere for you.:bighug: Canadian pharmacies need a prescription to ship across the border. Would the acupuncture vet be more forward thinking? Neko's acupuncture vetty is more willing to try new stuff. I am constantly getting her to learn new things, which she likes.

Deanie and Boo recommended Dr Brian Peter at Blue Cross Veterinary Clinic 4111 N 36th St Phoenix 602-955-5980.
Not being able to drive any longer, I have not been able to get over there, so I don't have personal experience.

Hi Karen,
I'm sorry about the vet situation with regard to Lev. prescriptions. I guess they're afraid of being sued. Although you need a prescription to order online from a Canadian pharmacy, if you visit Canada you can buy Lev or Lantus in a pharmacy without a prescription. Maybe a Canadian vacation? The exchange rate is very good:)

Wishing you luck with the dosecrease.

Couldn't a Canadian buy it for her and send it? Or is that against the law?

Great afternoon! Almost blue!!! Hoping for an all yellow night and maybe some blue.

Let's hold off on any potential increase in R until we see how this 12u dose goes.

Yes. Definitely. Just make sure that they have a small cooler to keep it in. And it's best not to call attention to it at the border. Just proceed as normal, with your soft drinks, or sandwiches, or whatever in the cooler (if they even ask).
Just realized I have friend who I've known for ever and is diabetic. He's giving me 6 Levemir pens:cool::cool:

I know you have your immediate problem with lev sorted, thanks to your friend. But if you are still hunting for a new vet for Doodles and the one @Julie and Eleanor recommended is too far away for Doodles, how about phoning them having a chat and seeing if they can recommend anyone closer.
If they are proactive forward thinking professional, my thoughts are that they will have colleagues/other vetty friends who may also be and maybe just maybe one of them may be closer to Doodles.

And by the way, I saw blue and so just had to stop by as soon as I saw it this morning:cool::cool::cool:

Your dedication and love for the Doodlebug is inspiring Karen.:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:
